As sad as this may sound, it really comes as no surprise to the relentless critics of the South Hadley school committee that 6 more students claim bullying in their endemically toxic school system. The mother of a 12 year old who was physically assaulted and bullied has a very telling tale:
The mother of a South-Hadley middle school boy, who plans to seek criminal charges against her child’s aggressors, said it’s time something was done.
“The school had the opportunity to fix this,” said the South Hadley mom . . .
The schools have had MANY opportunities to fix things, but they are so entrenched in defending their own jobs and egos, they are so befuddled by the complete lack of adult supervision from Gus Sayer and Ed Boiselle and the rest of their co-conspirators, they simply cannot create as if by magic an environment that is healthy and safe for their students.
Even the bullying expert whom the school district hired twice has some unpleasant words for them. Barbara Coloroso, the best selling author and lecturer, who’s advice to South Hadley High School in September 2009 was ignored (and had it been followed would have probably saved Phoebe Prince’s precious life), lashed out at the report submitted by the anti-bullying task force:
She said the district’s 60-page policy’s definition of bullying also fails to include the deliberate exclusion of a student, or “shunning,” one of the most common forms of bullying, Coloroso said.
“I as a parent would be very upset about that,” she said. “If you don’t get the definition, everything that flows from that will be flawed.”
“The policy needs to show that the district takes bullying seriously. And kids won’t get that if they’re allowed to act with impunity.”
