» Purchase diamond band, Belize, Cozumel, Grand Cayman?

by on August 13, 2010

Anyone know if you can get good deals on diamond wedding bands in the following ports? Belize, Cozumel, Grand Cayman? will be going on a cruise this spring and am looking for better prices than the states.

As they mentioned the parent company is Diamonds International. That doesn’t mean you should overlook Columbian Emeralds and Tanzanite International.

As far as those three ports, I wouldn’t do my shopping in Belize. It is not as big a store as the other ones and Belize is my favorite port of call. I don’t want to waste it in that dock-mall. When you get off in Belize you are in the Tanzanite International and must wait for them to open the doors in order to get into Belize City. So I’ve spent some time looking around and haven’t yet been impressed by the one in Belize. It’s just so much smaller than the others.

Grand Cayman and Cozumel however are shopping shopping everywhere. if you aren’t in St Thomas, those would be the ports I would go jewelry shopping. Yes the prices are much much better than the states. I have frequently gotten gemstone bracelets for less than $800–virtually unheard of in the states. as I said, you’ll want to go to each one not just Diamonds International. Before your port of call there will be a shopping talk. Familiarize yourself with the shopping guru. They’ve often helped me get an even better deal than I was getting before. They will be in the Diamonds International between 10-11 am, and at Tanzanite from 1-2pm (or whatever they announce). you want to be in the same stores at the same time. at the shopping talk they will also give you a map of where all the best deals are. It’s always easier if you can plan your walk ahead of time.

As you are looking for the wedding band, just be aware that you will need your engagement ring to make sure the fit is right. It will also help if you know the GIA stats on your ring so that they can find a wedding band that “matches”. It would look horrible if you got a lower color band than the engagement ring.

I believe all of those ports have a Diamonds International which is where I have learned to buy jewelry. Even though they are jewelry stores, you can negotiatie. also, don’t overlook the duty free shops on the ship. of the 3 ports, I would expect the better deals in Cozumel.

I agree with the first answer. Diamonds International are everywhere. I do know that if your sailing with Princess, they will guarantee that what you buy as far as anything from Diamonds International, is what it is worth. This is the policy of Princess. Princess also have shopping lectures on board the ship before you reach a port. They give you may ideas of where to buy not only diamonds, but many different stones. Don’t let some here tell you that Diamonds International are crummy or rip offs. When I got home, I immediately had some things appraised and found out that what I paid was better then fair. Grand Cayman is where I usually by nice things like diamonds or watches too.
