UFC 146 Results: Mike Brown Wins Decision Over Daniel Pineda

Mike Brown defeated Daniel Pineda via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

The opening bout of UFC 146 was a fun one, with Mike Brown defeating a game Daniel Pineda by unanimous decision. the scores were 29-28, 29-28, and 29-28. Brown was able to land the more damaging shots on the feet and spent a fair portion of the fight on top, but Pineda used some beautiful sweeps and grappling to gain his own advantageous positions a few times. Brown clearly won two rounds but Pineda definitely didn’t look bad in the loss.

After a minute of feeling each other out in the first, the fighters finally engaged and Brown landed two solid right hooks. Pineda landed a head kick in close that staggered Brown, but Brown responded by charging across the cage and getting the takedown. Brown worked a bit of ground and pound but got reversed. MTB popped up with a single leg and he landed another solid right. Pineda looked for a takedown with 45 seconds to go, but Brown flipped him over and worked from half guard for the rest of the round.

Pineda charged forward early and the men briefly engaged in a firefight. Brown landed a damaging right but Pineda responded with two of his own punches. Pineda took MTB down but Brown got up after a few seconds and slammed Pineda to the mat. Pineda hit an absolutely beautiful sweep and tried to lock up a guillotine but Brown got back to his feet and worked against the cage. Brown landed two big uppercuts and some knees and appeared to hurt Pineda, but he fired back with his own offense. Pineda started to look a bit tired and despite slipping on a kick, Brown was able to take top position and rain down some punches for the last minute of the round. Brown ended up with a cut from a Pineda elbow though.

After some exchanges for the first 45 seconds, Brown hurt Pineda with a knee to the body and worked some GnP on the ground. He was able to pass to side control briefly, but Pineda got back to full guard quickly. Pineda scooted underneath and somehow took Brown’s back, which was extremely impressive. He locked up a body triangle and tried to sink in a choke but Brown defended well for the rest of the fight.
