I love this movie: ‘The T.A.M.I. Show’

Comment

First of all, thanks for being patient with me today while I went and did a TV thing. It’s gonna take hours to remove the mascara.

Anyway, here’s a cool thing that has been getting tons of hits on YouTube this week: On Monday, a Glee-related flash mob happened at Ohio State University.

Says Pop reader Julie B.: “Apparently, this was done to promote the new student union. University president Gordon Gee dances in the video — pretty awesome, actually. I don’t know too many university presidents who would dance in a bow tie with Brutus Buckeye!”

Fox should use this to promote the show:

I want to watch Glee online, not have to rent it from Blockbuster or something. Does anybody know of a website I can do that on? Most of them I have to pay like amazon, or I have to fill out a quiz and give them my cell phone number, then they charge me.

There are lots of toys on the market today that can teach children the joy of building stuff, but few are as venerable and versatile as the classic LEGO. for the last 75 years, these colorful connecting blocks have captured the imagination of kids and adults alike, combining to create some truly unique LEGO structures, machines, and useful devises.

In honor of the company’s platinum anniversary, we thought it would be fun to create a comprehensive compendium of LEGO projects (and other cool creations). whether you’re wanting to build your own LEGO ultrasonic sonar or rubber band gun, I’m sure you’ll find one or two projects on this list that will spark your inner LEGO-addict, compelling you to either drag out the old bucket full of blocks from your closet, or go buy a brand new set from the store.

  1. LEGO Guitar Hero controller – This one’s been making the rounds lately, and for good reason… a hand-crafted Guitar Hero controller is cool, but one made entirely out of LEGOs is even cooler.
  2. LEGO real guitar – Combine this with the Guitar Hero project above, and you’d have one sweet G.H. controller. Better yet, make it interchangeable between controller and real guitar… AWESOME!
  3. LEGO USB flash drive – You can either roll your own, or buy one pre-made. The choice should be simple for our DIY-ers.
  4. LEGO dog treat dispenser via IM message – I wonder if this could be modified to work with those tasty beef jerky nuggets, but instead of giving it to a dog, have the machine drop it into my mouth? If so, that would be AWESOME!
  5. LEGO trebuchet – Fun, potentially dangerous (if aimed directly at your eye), and made with LEGOs. what more could you ask for?!
  6. LEGO USB crank charger – This handy little device can charge anything that receives current via USB port.
  7. LEGO air conditioner – not only is this project an impressive sculpture, but it’s also fully functional. That’s cool (literally). *rim shot*
  8. LEGO barcode scanner – Uh… this is neat. Right?
  9. LEGO ultrasonic sonar – This could also be used as an effective electronic range meter.
  10. LEGO Rubik’s cube – If LEGOs don’t take up enough of your time as is, maybe you should use them to create another time drain: the Rubik’s cube.
  11. LEGO difference engine – I’m not going to lie to you… I have no idea what a difference engine is. what I do know is that this thing is big, cool, and complex-looking. If it can be modified to drop beef jerky into my mouth, it might just be the greatest invention since the t-shirt folding machine.
  12. LEGO yarn winder – You’ve got lots of yarn. You’ve got lots of LEGOs. This project is the inevitable outcome of the two.
  13. LEGO NES case mod – When you’re finished, you can build a LEGO robot to beat Super Mario Brothers!
  14. LEGO SNEX mod – If you’re looking for something a little more advanced than 8-bit, try this SNES / Xbox mod.
  15. LEGO Han Solo in carbonite – not necessarily a project, but damn cool none-the-less.
  16. LEGO desk – I bet the desktop surface doesn’t lend itself to writing.
  17. LEGO MP3 player docks – Sync up your iPod or vintage shuffle with one of these sweet docks.
  18. LEGO MP3 player – If you don’t already have an Apple-branded MP3 player, why not make your own out of LEGOs?
  19. LEGO salt and pepper shakers – As if having salt and pepper in one container wasn’t cool enough, check out this color-coordinated container that allows you to control the ratio of salt to pepper, or vice versa. Perfect for seasoning your beef jerky!
  20. LEGO rubber band gun – Fun, potentially dangerous (if aimed directly at your eye), and made with LEGOs. That sounds vaguely familiar.
  21. LEGO computer case – it might not be the most attractive computer case, but for what this guy managed to cram inside, it’s pretty impressive.
  22. LEGO stop-action music videos – Amateur vs. professional: both equally awesome.
  23. LEGO construction software – having trouble thinking of your own LEGO creation? This software lets you use virtual LEGOs to create whatever your heart desires.

What awesome LEGO projects have you created? None, you say?! Well, I think it’s high time to break out the ol’ blocks and start building!

Wasn’t Tuesday night’s “Glee” kind of a tearjerker? the show’s regular pep was replaced this week by moving renditions of classic Burt Bacharach and Barbara Streisand tunes, and Adam Anders, the hit show’s busy music producer, couldn’t be happier about it (even though you were reaching for Kleenex).

“One of the most amazing moments in this episode is the duet between Matthew Morrison and Kristin Chenoweth, a mash-up between Burt Bacharach and [sung by] Barbra Streisand [of the 1971 Bacharach/ Hal David medley, ‘One Less Bell to Answer’/ ‘A House Is Not a Home’],” Adam told MTV News at his recording studio in Hollywood. “It was shot as one scene that never breaks. It’s stunning. I was blown away when I saw it and had chills and tears.”

And when we describe Adam as busy, let’s just say that’s an understatement. the “Glee” production schedule requires that he churn out six to 11 musical numbers each week, so he’s almost always working at a nearly impossible speed. But all the work he’s put into “Glee” may have finally paid off, because Adam describes last night’s show as the most moving episode yet.

Out of this week’s performances, including the Bruce Springsteen cover of “Fire” by Matthew and guest star Kristin (nearly the only upbeat tune of the bunch), Adam felt particularly proud of Chris Colfer’s rendition of “A House Is Not a Home,” deeming it “the most emotional song we’ve ever done.” Adam also raved about Amber Riley’s “Beautiful”; and what’s most remarkable about this memorable “Glee” moment is that it almost never happened at all.

“Amber Riley didn’t want to sing it,” Adam said of Amber’s initial reaction to the 2002 hit ballad. “Don’t let her tell you otherwise. she really respects Christina Aguilera and wanted to do it justice. Like when she did ‘And I’m Telling you I’m Not going,’ she was really nervous about it. But as everyone knows, she killed it.”

What did you like most about this week’s “Glee”? Do you think Mercedes can keep up with the Cheerios? Do you think Kurt’s dad and Finn’s mom are made for each other?

Britney Spears‘ manager Adam Leber is trying to mount another glorious comeback via the hottest musical showcase on TV: “Glee.” after the rousing success of the all-Madonna episode, he tweeted, “Do you guys want to see a Britney Spears episode of GLEE? thoughts?”

We at Zap2it think an all-Britney episode would be fun, but we’d love to see some other musical performers get a crack at a “Glee” showcase. and don’t worry — we didn’t forget Lady Gaga. as successful as Gaga’s been so quickly, she’s still a newbie to the scene. but we think the “Glee” Season 4 premiere has Gaga written all over it. Check out our picks…

Steve Perry was skeptical when the producers of a television pilot about a high school glee club sought permission to use his band’s signature song in their show; the former frontman for the classic rock group Journey is protective of his legacy. “I want to be able to put these songs somewhere with good conscience that they’re not going to be abused,” Perry said in a recent interview. “I don’t want to see that happen.”

He needn’t have worried. Perry overcame his doubts, agreed to license the song to the producers of ” Glee,” and a year later “Don’t Stop Believin’ ” has reached a new generation of music fans.

As many younger viewers seem to be losing interest in the once invulnerable ” American Idol,” “Glee” looks poised to be pop’s new tastemaker. Much like “Idol,” “Glee” is helping alter the dynamic between music and television, showing ways that both media can help prop up each other in a world beset by multichannel and Internet competition.

Returning from a four-month hiatus earlier this month, the first-season comedy about nerdy glee club members hit a new ratings peak following “American Idol,” with 13.6 million total viewers; it actually beat “Idol” among the key demographic of adults aged 18 to 34, according to the Nielsen Co.

When Fox revealed its plan to broadcast reruns of Fringe and Glee with a live Twitter feed overlay, I said they had to be really really careful. but Fox didn’t listen. from user comments online it looks like the experiment earned itself a big FAIL.

And it wasn’t necessarily because the moderated streams pissed off devoted fans. The problem is that regular viewers were annoyed at the intrusion of the Twitter-based babble taking up precious on-screen real-estate. Check out the pics Dave Zatz managed to grab–the wacky formatting and those huge text boxes obliterate the action.

Of the five commenters on my original article about the plan, all five found the Twitter feed unsatisfying. Sarah Lynd’s response is the simplest, and will represent the kind of response that Fox will be 100% unhappy to hear: “This is one of the stupidests tests I’ve seen. I switched over to 30 Rock.” but these guys are not alone. Dave Zatz himself noted it made “Fringe unwatchable” on his widescreen TV, and speculated it would be even worse in traditional 4:3 format. Meanwhile, over at MonstersAndCritics.com, the first eight anonymous commenters noted how intrusive and annoying it was: “Most annoying thing I have ever seen,” and “take it off the screen so we can see the show” being typical responses.

Positive comments were few and far between. so why did it fail so badly? because whoever was in charge of the look and feel of the Twitter experiment made a massive error, and turned the Twitter overlay from a fun fact-filled add on to a massive, irritating distraction. The content of the Tweets are always going to annoy some fans who just want to watch the show, so Fox should’ve relegated the Twitter overlay to a narrow, dark-colored strip right at the bottom of the screen where it wouldn’t interfere with the action. Fox should check out the BBC’s News graphic overlays, which are a good model for how this could work much more successfully and tastefully.
