With his good looks, a little bit of luck, and raw talent, Josh Duhamel has had a very successful career. It all started with what some might call fate.

Josh ended up following an ex-girlfriend to California. while there a scout from a modeling agency noticed him.

During his modeling days he won the Male Model of the Year in an International Modeling Talent Association competition. The first runner up was another huge star in the making, Ashton Kutcher.

Josh Duhamel’s first acting roles were as an extra in music videos. In 1998 he appeared in the Donna Summers video for I Will go With You. In 1999 he was in Christina Aguilera’s video for Genie in a Bottle. that same year Josh got his first leading role in the indie film The Picture of Dorian Gray.

He didn’t have to play around in music videos for too long for the bigwigs to notice him. after the Christina Aguilera video he caught the eye of ABC execs. he got the role of Leo du Pres on the soap opera all My Children.

Josh quickly became a fan favorite on the soap. In 2002, along with costar Rebecca Budig, he was nominated for the Daytime Emmy’s Special Fan Award for America’s Favorite Couple. he also won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor.

In 2002 Josh decided to leave all My Children, so Leo died on the show. to this day, the character’s name gets brought up quite a bit on the soap.

The next year Josh Duhamel grabbed a role on NBC’s Las Vegas. His character was casino security agent Danny McCoy.

His role on Las Vegas can be credited with really launching his star status. It opened him up to a wider audience. after he spent five years on the hit show, Las Vegas ended up getting cancelled in 2008.

In 2004, while working on Las Vegas, Josh landed his first feature film as the star of Win a Date with Tad Hamilton. he played Tad Hamilton, sharing screen time with Topher Grace and Kate Bosworth.

In 2006 he starred in the thriller Turistas. Josh’s character is a tourist in Brazil whose backpacking trip takes a dangerous turn, leading the characters into a nightmare of a trip when they end up being held captive by a radical military group. Turistas was a low budget film which didn’t bring in much at the box office.

In 2007 Josh was cast as Captain William Lennox in Transformers. Transformers was one of the most successful films at the box office in 2007.

Josh got the role after Steven Spielberg saw an episode of Las Vegas in which Josh’s character was returning home from the war in Iraq. Spielberg was so impressed, he picked him for the role. Josh will also play the role in the sequel, Revenge of the Fallen, expected to be released in June of 2009.

A Brief History of Josh Duhamel and His Career

For over ninety years, Planned Parenthood (PP) has supported specific healthcare and preventive care services for women. The organization offers reproductive healthcare information and healthcare services, information for young people, men and women worldwide as well as sex education. this system helps people make responsible decisions about health, family planning and sex.

There are currently 83 locally governed affiliates of Planned Parenthood across the United States, operating nearly 800 health centers targeting the various needs in the communities they serve. The focus falls mainly on preventive primary care that reduces the number of unwanted pregnancies and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. Testing, treatment, planning and screening for various types of cancer are also available.

This system is also powers the reproductive health and rights movement. they advocate for policies that allow Americans to get access to sexual healthcare and reliable information. there is current support for the introduction of free birth control in health insurance policies, according to the federal legislation act that will kick in from August 2012. four million activists, donors and supporters nationwide get involved in PP campaigns to protect women’s rights and health.

The Planned Parenthood Federation of America also includes an Action Fund that engages in educational and electoral activity. As part of the Fund’s activity we ought to mention legislative advocacy efforts as well as public education campaigns. The Planned Parenthood is an independent and not-for-profit organization even if it functions as a political branch for the Planned Parenthood Federation.

Planned Parenthood is affiliated with numerous women’s groups and family planning institutions and independent providers in developing countries. Poverty, the absence of basic services, war and oppressive politics block individuals’ access to essential sexual and reproductive healthcare information. Planned Parenthood has solid collaborations with organizations in Asia, Latin America or Africa to support education and healthcare.

This kind of contribution indirectly generates improvement in local communities worldwide, both in terms of health and social education programs. Fighting for more rights and access to basic healthcare represents an important part of the activity that Planned Parenthood takes part to in less privileged parts of the world.

Hopefully, things will gradually improve worldwide, for women’s health and sexual education. and the benefits deriving from such improvements touch on the well being of entire communities. Reliable reproductive information leads not only to a control of unwanted pregnancies and abortions, but it also to helps reduce the spread of sexually transmitted diseases that plague modern mankind.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — Wellington polo magnate John Goodman is charged with DUI manslaughter in the death of 24-year-old Scott Wilson and the target of a lawsuit from Wilson’s parents.

In court documents CBS 12 learned Goodman adopted his 42-year-old girlfriend Heather Hutchins last fall in Miami. She’s now a beneficiary of Goodman’s children’s trusts.

“My reaction was that it was both awful and brillant,” said Delray Beach adoption attorney Charlotte Danciu.

Pictures of the children and families Danciu helped over the decades fill her office. She’s also played a role in shaping state adoption laws. She directs us to Florida statutes, “Adoption means the act of creating the legal relationship between parent and child where it did not exist.”

“Unless you intend to create the parent-child relationship, you are violating the letter of the law,” Danciu said.

Goodman’s lawyer Daniel Bachi tells CBS 12, “John Goodman’s adoption was done for estate planning purposes and to ensure protection of both his and her minor children and the stability of all the family investments.”

But giving Goodman’s girlfriend access to the children’s trusts looks like this to adoption attorney Danciu:

“So this was an effort to carve out some of that money to be used by him and his girlfriend to support their lifestyle, which is not the intention of the adoption statute,” Danciu said.

As of right now, John Goodman’s civil and criminal trials are both set to take place during the month of March at the Palm Beach County courthouse. in the criminal case, the judge has just denied Goodman’s request to have the trial moved to Miami.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — the announcement by the Susan G. Komen Foundation to cut off funding to planned Parenthood has created a firestorm of controversy over what some people say is a politically-motivated move against the clinics which, among other services, perform abortions.

According to records, the move should not affect funding at any of the metro-area planned Parenthood clinics, as the local chapter of the foundation has never given funds to planned Parenthood.

The Susan G. Komen Foundation is built around raising funds to help fight breast cancer through their Pink Ribbon campaign and Race for a Cure marathons. the foundation gives funds to over 30 local organizations, including St. Luke’s Cancer Institute.

“We are very grateful for our relationship with Komen,” said Kim Day, manager of St. Luke’s Breast Services. She says that the money they received from the foundation keeps their mobile mammography program running.

“that funding allows us to go out into our under-served communities in the Kansas City area and provide about 1,500 mammograms to those women each year,” said Day.

The foundation had previously given funds to planned Parenthood to provide similar mammography services for low-income women. but earlier this week, the foundation announced that they were cutting off the payments because of an investigation by a Republican congressman from Florida over whether planned Parenthood used federal funds to provide abortions.

The foundation says that their by-laws prevent them from working with any group or organization that’s under investigation by federal, state or local law enforcement agencies, but critics charge that the move is clearly politically-motivated.

“I think really what this is is a result of is this very ugly and agressive campaign by right-wing organizations to bully the Komen Foundation and keep them from working with planned Parenthood,” said planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards.

Planned Parenthood says that since the decision was announced, they have received almost $700,000 in donations in just 24 hours – an amount greater than they actually received from the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

The local chapter of the Susan G. Komen Foundation referred FOX 4 to the national organization for comment, but FOX 4′s calls were not returned. the foundation did release a statement defending their decision, saying, “to be absolutely clear that our grant-making decisions are not out politics.”

The move has caused an uproar on the foundation’s Facebook page.

“SHAME. ON YOU!!! I hope this backfires on your organization,” said commenter Gabrielle DoPico.

“Susan G. you did the right thing! U may lose some supporters but u will be gaining more:)!!!!!!” said Lindsay Kersey.

Here in the metro, groups like St. Luke’s Hospital say that they aren’t going to get involved in the controversy.

“if Susan Komen did not provide this funding those women would not have any access to mammography,” said Day.

If you are one of the strange people who care about the very poor, the downtrodden, the forgotten, and the anonymous, you might enjoy the story of David Choe. Even though he’s neither poor nor anonymous these days.

In 2005, Choe was privileged to be offered an interesting opportunity — to paint the walls of Facebook’s first office in Palo Alto.

At the time, of course, he had no idea that these odd people would become more important than potentates and politicians. But, as the new York Times paints it, Sean Parker, Facebook’s president at the time, offered him a few thousand dollars or the equivalent in shares.

A sample of David Choe's work from his Facebook page.

Choe took the latter, even though, the Times says, he thought at the time that Facebook was “ridiculous and pointless.”

Which of us has never gravitated– or even graffitated– toward the ridiculous and pointless? in this case, some estimates suggest that Choe will make a passable $200 million from Facebook’s forthcoming IPO.

It would be a wonderful story if Choe was down on his luck, sleeping in garages and on friends’ sofas, and painting subway trains while running from the police. Wonderful in a literary sense, you understand.

However, you can replace your handkerchief in your wallet, as he is already a very successful artist. He has published a book of his work, which one Amazon reviewer described as “a glorious trip through David Choe’s f’ed up mind.” the book does include some of the Facebook murals he painted.

Choe’s work has been exhibited all over the world and, yes, of course he has a Facebook page.

It offers a glimpse into his life (sample: “Usually not much of a multi tasker, looking at metallic and fluorescent color swatches for vice January cover, texting, taking flicks, and driving with my erection”), his art (both beautiful and aggressive, so only half like Facebook) and his beer.

Choe may be one of the more fortunate lesser-knowns who will benefit hugely from Facebook’s success. Perhaps, though, his story offers that you should always follow your passion and hope to get a little (or a lot) of luck along the way.

Bee Cave Bob joins Punxsutawney Phil

by on February 3, 2012

BEE CAVE, Texas (KXAN) – While Punxsutawney Phil is a big hit in Pennsylvania, we do it a bit differently here in Texas on Groundhog Day.

We have Bee Cave Bob, the armadillo that lives in Bee Cave just west of Austin.

He will be predicting the start of spring Thursday afternoon.

The Lone Star Weatherological Society said he’s pretty accurate.

If he comes out of his hole, spring will come six weeks early. if he stays inside, we’re in for more winter.

The group claims Bee Cave Bob is right 98.6 percent of the time.

Meanwhile, a lot of people are talking about the weather this winter, or the lack of wintry weather.

In-depth look at the numbers

  • Last winter we recorded 19 days of freezing temperatures. this year we’ve only had six days so far.
  • Last January’s average high was 60 degrees. this January’s average high was 67 degrees.

Tom Brady’s wife Gisele Bündchen knows just how important Super Bowl 2012 is to her husband the new England Patriots quarterback.  Reportedly Bündchen has sent an email out asking for her friends to pray for Brady to have strength on Sunday to go out and compete well in the Super Bowl.  maybe Gisele knows something we don’t. Brady played like crap against the Ravens and this Sunday playing like that isn’t going to cut it against the Giants defense.

In the AFC title game Brady had a poor performance missing receivers that were wide open. We all know Brady has had a sore none throwing shoulder, maybe that injury is a little worse than the team is letting on. Belichick is one of the all time greats at supplying disinformation to the media concerning injuries. Belichick has a history of either exaggerating  or down playing injuries to his players. maybe downplaying fits into Tom Brady’s case.

If Brady takes a few hits that knock him onto his injured shoulder, that could be it. After all who knows Tom Brady better than his mega model wife Gisele Bündchen, and she knows just how important this Sunday’s Super Bowl 2012 is to her husband Tom Brady…

Lets face it folks, Tom Brady is one very lucky man. God has already given Brady an abundance of Blessings.

Mark Zuckerberg is on his way to becoming one of the richest people in the world, but when it comes to influence in the worlds of politics and business, he sits in the shadow of his chief operating officer, Sheryl Sandberg.

Sandberg, 43, is credited for the success of Facebook’s advertising strategy. When she joined Facebook in 2008 it had 130 employees and no cash. Three years later Facebook was profitable, 2,500 people worked there and the userbase had jumped from 70 million to almost 845 million. But her career, and influence, began long before Zuckberg sought her out.

Sandberg was born in 1969 in Washington, D.C., and at the age of two her family moved to Miami, where she grew up. she is older than her two siblings, David and Michelle.

As an undergraduate at Harvard, Sandberg majored in economics and took Lawrence Summers’ class in public sector economics. her midterm and final grades were the highest in the class, and Summers ended up becoming the adviser on her senior thesis, “how economic inequality contributes to spousal abuse.”

When Summers became the chief economist at the World Bank in January 1991, he recruited Sandberg, hiring her as his research assistant. After two years of working for Summers, she took a job at McKinsey & Company, and married (and later divorced) a businessman named Brian Kraff. When Summers became the Deputy Treasury Secretary in the Clinton Administration, he asked Sandberg to join as his chief of staff. she accepted.

In Sandberg’s talks about women in the workforce, she reinforces the fact that women need to stand up for themselves, and speak up.

“Sit at the table,” she said in her 2010 TEDWomen Talk. “In the corporate sector – women at the top, c-level jobs, board seats – tops out at 15-16%. The numbers have not moved since 2002 and are going in the wrong direction.” Those numbers look about the same in the non-profit sector. she also points out how women face harder choices between personal success and professional fulfillment. how do we change those numbers?” she asks a willing audience. “by keeping women in the workforce… Success and likeability are positively correlated for men and negatively correlated for women,” says Sandberg. “and men are reaching for opportunities more than women.”

  • Formerly:Google – VP of global online sales & operations McKinsey & Company – management consultantSecretary of the Treasury (Lawrence H. Summers) – chief of staff
  • Education:Harvard Business School – 1993-1995Harvard University – BA, Economics, 1987-1991

That was the first of three points she delivered. second, she tells women to “make sure your partner is a real partner.” at the Grace Hopper Conference, Sandberg expanded on that statement, speaking to an audience of young women. she told them that it was okay to get involved with those “crazy types” when they’re young, but do not marry them. In 2004 she married her long-time best friend David Goldberg, who is also the CEO of SurveyMonkey. together they have a five-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter.

Her third point speaks to her choice to have a family and a career. “Don’t leave before you leave,” she told the TED audience. Don’t leave the workforce to have kids and not return because you didn’t get that job you wanted before you left.

Sandberg demonstrated that first point during her time with Summers. she always made sure she was at the table, even if it meant asking others to move. In 1999, Summers became Treasury Secretary; Sandberg, at 29-years-old, became his chief of staff. “If I was making a mistake, she told me,” Summers told The New Yorker. “she was totally loyal, but totally in my face.”

In 2000, the Clinton Administration came to an end. Sandberg left Washington for the Silicon Valley shortly thereafter. Google had been aggressively recruiting her, and finally she accepted their offer. she joined in 2001, at a time when Google was still new and not-at-all profitable. But she joined Google for the same reason that she decided to get involved in politics: there was a bigger mission at stake. at Google, that mission was to make information more accessible and freely available. Sandberg is credited with making Google AdWords profitable. These ads don’t really affect the user experience; but on the flip side, they are gathering keywords from personal data found in email exchanges.

Somaly Mam of Somaly Mam Foundation and moderator Sheryl Sandberg, Chief Operating Officer, Facebook speaking at the session ONE ON ONE: Somaly Mam

Sandberg and Somaly Mam of the Somaly Mam Foundation, October, 2011

Sandberg started working at Facebook in 2008, when she was 38 years old. When she joined under the title of “director,” she was granted .1% of the company. That means that when Facebook begins to trade on Wall Street later this year, she will became one of the richest self-made women in the world. she just bought a house down the street from Facebook, and she’s going to stay there, at least, for the time being. In 2011, Forbes listed her as the fifth most powerful woman in the world.

As an influencer, Sandberg focuses her energies on companies with broad, powerful missions. In politics, it’s about the greater good; at Google, she focused on making the world’s information accessible to all. and now she is at Facebook, where the goal is “to make the world more open and connected.”

At Facebook, Sandberg’s work not only influences politics and information-sharing, but is shaping the way humans think about communication. because Facebook is not only a freshly minted public company, it’s a culture we live in.

Discuss

As with the organizations that have paved the way for it, Planned Parenthood is all about giving everyone access to the birth control methods that they need – right from the right to free condoms and birth control pills to pregnancy terminations or abortions for women who need them. not only do they passively grant access to people who need their services, they actively go out to put their message out among the public – that everyone has the right to terminate a pregnancy and to decide if and when they need to have a baby. You’ve probably seen Planned Parenthood sponsoring women’s rights events when they talk about reproductive rights and pro-choice freedoms. Planned Parenthood is also often a part of any scientific study in the country that looks for volunteers for new kinds of contraceptive devices. any time any lawmaker in the country tries to promote a new bill that places any kind of restriction on a woman seeking an abortion – be it a law that tries to force girls under 18 or 17 to obtain permission from their parents before they opt for a termination or a law that tries to force women to get an ultrasound of their pregnancies before they abort, or a law that tries to get women to wait a certain period of time before they get the termination that they ask for, Planned Parenthood is always there as a bulwark against a slide into a time when women had fewer rights.

In doing all this, the organization certainly ruffles a few feathers. and the organization is constantly either suing or getting sued itself in its fight for a woman’s right to make decisions for herself. and they have had quite a few successes. in Planned Parenthood vs. Casey in the Supreme Court for instance, the organization managed to win quite a few freedoms for women and to uphold Roe vs. Wade. they also managed to strike down a law that required that women seeking pregnancy terminations needed to have the permission of their husband. Other important cases involving Planned Parenthood have won all kinds of important rights for women. in one case in the state of Missouri, they won the right for women to not have to seek the consent of anyone to request an abortion. they also won in their attempt to get the law to not require hospitals to keep any records of abortions done, and they opened up many more options to women in the method they got to choose.

In one case, the ACLA tried to intimidate doctors who performed terminations by putting out posters with pictures of them to try to turn people against them. Planned Parenthood sued to get those off the streets really quickly. Planned Parenthood is often on the receiving end of all manner of sting operations from pro-lifers. they come in with elaborately planned acts to try to make workers at Planned Parenthood look like they will do anything to get an abortion done – even breaking the law as often as possible. they come in with hidden cameras, pretending to be racists who hope to make donations that will be used specifically to grant abortions to black women; they come in pretending to be pimps who want their child prostitutes to be given abortions so that they can continue in their trade and so on. None of these has really placed Planned Parenthood in trouble though. even the federal investigation by the Bush administration found that there was no wrongdoing that took place that could be placed at the doorstep of Planned Parenthood.

It’s not easy being a parent but it’s not rocket science either. all you have to do as parents is plan, think and discuss what actions you will take before the situations occur. even a single parent can plan their actions ahead of time. the planning you do now will reap huge rewards in the years to come.

Let me give you 5 strategies to consider before becoming a parent.

1. Start Early

Start planning now, how you as parents are going to handle certain situations. Don’t wait till the baby arrives to start planning your discipline strategies. Don’t wait till your toddler is ready for school before discussing the type of education you desire for your child. but most important, don’t wait till your bundle of joy is a teenager to develop your guidelines for the teen years. Early planning will save you from many disappointments and heartaches.

2. be Consistent

As you begin to put your guidelines in to effect, you need to be consistent in your discipline applications and behavior expectations. if you or the other parent do not follow the same standards when enforcing the guidelines your child will use that against you. it is not uncommon for a child to drive a wedge between parents when parents do not agree on methods of punishment or reinforcement. So, discuss what your strategies will be and agree on your plan of action even before the baby arrives.

3. be Clear

Be very clear and direct in your communication with your child. your commands should be simple, specific and to the point. your child should not have to guess what you are trying to get them to do. after giving your child a command, have him repeat it back to you to verify that he understood. if your child didn’t understand, it’s your job to clarify it.

Likewise, it is your duty as parent to make sure your child knows your expectations. Let her know exactly what you expect in areas of social behavior, education and responsibilities. Don’t assume your child knows what you expect her to do in certain situations. You need to take the time to make your expectations known to avoid confusion and misunderstandings.

4. be Willing

You must be willing to be the parent. You must be willing to be hated. You must be willing to do what is right for your child not what is easy. You must be the adult. You cannot be your child’s buddy.

It will not be easy to say no to your child because you want to be liked. it is human nature to want others to like us but you must develop the courage to stand up to your child and do what is right. It’s not easy, but it’s necessary.

5. be an Example

You must realize that your children will be watching YOU They will learn many of their habits, beliefs and ideas from you and your actions. Take some time and examine your habits. Are your habits worth passing on to your children? Are your beliefs and ideas something you would want your children to copy?

It is your responsibility to prepare your child for life. Don’t leave your child’s success to chance. You must prepare, plan and take action to be a successful parent.
