Our nation is changing and changing fast. the U.K. is being transformed in a way which would be unthinkable just a few years ago. let me illustrate one aspect.
The translation of the inscription at the entrance of BBC Broadcasting House, London, reads:
To Almighty God – This shrine of the arts, music and literature is dedicated by the first Governors in the year of our Lord 1931, John Reith being Director General. it is their prayer that good seed sown will produce a good harvest, that everything offensive to decency and hostile to peace will be expelled, and that the nation will incline its ear to those things which are lovely, pure and of good report and thus pursue the path of wisdom and virtue.
Then two years ago a rather disgraceful piece of broadcasting took place. it was entitled, Jerry Springer the Opera now it has little to do with the actual programme and the persons involved in that television series, which has its own ethical peculiarities and moral behavioural dilemmas
Would the content of ‘Jerry Springer the Opera’ be in keeping with the values and goals of the Governors of earlier days? the rather high standards of former days have suddenly evaporated as those in positions of responsibility, within the BBC, no longer have the sound solid foundation of previous leaders.
Other programmes are not excluded.
I am not against freedom of speech, but I am against an avalanche of filth.
The main question regarding JSTO was not that of offending Christians, but of offending God
Many objected to JSTO being broadcast because, foundational in the ten Commandments, man is told: you shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
For those totally unaware of the facts, there were over 50,000 objections to the broadcasting of the programme where God and Jesus and other biblical characters are presented in a most demeaning and derogatory manner. Having been given his home number, I personally telephoned the Director General of the BBC and received good fair hearing, but basically a bland reply.
Interestingly, certain adverts have received a handful of objections and have been rather quickly withdrawn – but not JSTO. I wonder why?
Knowing what the ten Commandments teach is a solemn matter, and breaking them can have serious consequences.
The first Commandment is concerned with what we do with our hearts – you shall have no other gods before me.
In the second, God warns us about how we use our hands – you shall not make for yourself an idol – nor bow down to them or worship them.
The third Commandment deals with what comes from our mouths.
Do take a moment to read again that inscription on what was the Headquarters of the BBC written in the
days when we had men who respected Almighty God and regarded Jesus Christ and His Word with authority and reverence.
Jesus Christ reminds men that one day they will be answerable for every careless word they have spoken.
