NBA star Chris Andersen – aka The Birdman – claims he’s NOT guilty of any Internet crime involving children … claiming he’s the victim in an extortion plot involving a 21-year-old woman.

After authorities in Colorado searched the Denver Nuggets player’s home and seized property, Andersen’s lawyer released a statement … insisting he was set up by a scorned woman.

Andersen’s lawyer explains, “a female fan in 2010 mailed mr. Andersen multiple letters and included several photos in which she was scantily clad.”

“Chris and this woman communicated with each other and in 2011, this woman, who represented herself as 21 years of age, flew to Colorado, showing her required identification. After leaving Colorado, she became upset at his lack of interest. in 2012, she threatened to retaliate if he did not provide financial remuneration. ”

Andersen’s lawyer claims someone purporting to be the woman’s mother followed up with an email that read “I want him to pay for everything on her Amazon wish list, 5K for her bedding stuff and her Victoria’s Secret wish list.”

The statement continues, “The media has been speculating that he’s a suspect and not a victim in a criminal investigation. mr. Andersen has been fully cooperative with the authorities. The investigation is expected to take three weeks. We’re confident it will show that Chris did not engage in any criminal conduct.”

For the record — Andersen has neither been arrested nor charged with a crime.

Remember CreativeAmerica? That’s the pro-SOPA/PIPA astroturf group that the big Hollywood studios set up, pretending that it was a “grassroots” campaign (even though its grassroots efforts aren’t turning up many supporters). for a group that positions itself as being really strongly pro-stronger, more draconian copyright, you would think that it would be careful to, you know, not copy others, right? but, really, what’s a little copying among people lobbying over bills about the evils of copying? yes, it appears that the good folks at CreativeAmerica just happened to notice that the large and growing anti-SOPA/PIPA forces have mobilized the public to go out to various town hall meetings for Senators to protest PIPA… and they decided, “Hey, we should do that!” but, rather than creating their own campaign, and doing the legwork (and, trust me, there’s a lot of legwork involved) to actually compile the list of townhalls and then to craft an email to supporters… it seems that CreativeAmerica thought it would be easier to just copy someone else’s… and… um… “remix” it. you can see the email that Public Knowledge sent to people protesting PIPA here. And, here is the email that CreativeAmerica just sent to people urging them to go to the same town hall meetings in support of PIPA. you… may notice some similarities. Here are the two emails side by side. yes, they made some changes…. er… remixes… but it’s pretty obvious that CreativeAmerica just took PK’s email and made a few edits. It’s especially obvious when you look at the 3 point list of instructions… which is almost word-for-word. click for larger version as for the two meetup groups… you can see Public Knowledge’s town hall meetup here and you can see CreativeAmerica’s here. it seems pretty clear that CreativeAmerica simply scraped and copied PK’s. So creative! Of course, we have no problem with this general kind of building on the works of others. We consider such remixing and building on the works of others a true form of creativity. We just find it a wee bit (well, actually, more than that) hypocritical for an organization set up by the big movie studios for the express purpose of pushing for heftier punishment for those who copy… to then go and copy stuff themselves. Paraphrasing the critics in our own comments: What’s wrong, CreativeAmerica, can’t you create your own works here? why do you have to “steal” the work of other people who actually did the work?

Maytown Elementary School, one of the oldest elementary schools in Pennsylvania, could so close its doors after more than 150 years in operation.

Donegal administrators and board members plan to hold public hearings Jan. 17 on closing the historic school along with the district’s Kindergarten Center.

The two hearings — required under state law — will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Maytown Elementary School.

“The recommendation to close two of the district’s elementary schools is a decision made after much deliberation,” Superintendent Susan Ursprung said Tuesday in an email. “We believe that the time has come for such a request.”

According to its history on the school’s website, Maytown started as an elementary school in 1860.

It became Maytown Central High School in 1892 and Maytown High School in 1935.

Maytown has been praised for its blend of wooden floors — original to the school — and modern amenities including its computer lab.

Unfortunately, time, age and cost have caught up with the school.

“At both schools, but especially at the Maytown Elementary School due to its history, one can feel a special spirit and see the beautiful traditions that exist each and every day. It is my belief that much of the best of both schools can be incorporated into our realigned primary and intermediate schools,” Ursprung said.

Donegal is in full swing into a districtwide grade realignment plan and renovation project that proposes to consolidate all the district’s classes into three remaining school buildings and a new high school under construction along Koser Road. The opening is scheduled for this summer.

“The closing of the Donegal Kindergarten Center and the Maytown Elementary School will result in a realignment of our elementary grade levels. A primary school will support our K-2 students, and an intermediate school will support our students in grades 3-6,” Ursprung said.

Once the district’s new high school opens, the current high school would be renovated to house grades 7 and 8, which was the most the school could handle based on its size and state education guidelines.

“This realignment promotes a stronger focus on primary and intermediate instructional needs. At the primary level, early literacy will be a key component, and at the intermediate level increasing academic expectations will be fostered while keeping the whole child in mind,” she said.

Ursprung said the consolidation aims to increase collaboration and target professional development among teachers.

She said that library and technology resources would be combined to reduce costs. Lower costs also are expected through realignment, she said.

The fate of Maytown and Kindergarten Center buildings has not been determined, but district officials last month suggested they could be sold at a future date.

Comedian Patrice O'Neal, who was  the butt of sardonic health-related jokes at last month's Comedy Central Roast for Charlie Sheen, has apparently suffered a serious stroke.

Fellow funnyman Jim Norton told radio show "Opie and Anthony" Wednesday that his 41-year-old friend had suffered a serious stroke last week, Reuters reports.

"We don't know how he is," Norton said. "We don't know how he's going to be. I didn't want to (reveal) this myself. I wish we had more news for you."

the new York-based O'Neal appeared on last month's highly-rated Comedy Central broadcast event alongside fellow comedians, including Amy Schumer, reports Reuters.

Schumer jokingly remarked about O’Neal, "Patrice has always been destined for stardom, and diabetes. so tonight is not just the roast of Charlie Sheen, its' also a farewell party for Patrice's foot."

Comedy Central had planned to repeat the roast event on numerous future occasions, which now looks unlikely.

For its part, "Opie and Anthony" released a statement on the show's Facebook page: "Our close friend Patrice O'Neal suffered a stroke last week," it reads, Reuters reports.

"please respect his family and their request for privacy. an email has been set up for fans to send him well wishes and his family will make sure he gets them. you can write to LoveForPatrice@gmail.com. when we have an update on his condition, we will let you all know,” they wrote.

My budget is only limited for used cars, and I have no idea what to check with them when buying (like under the hood) so that I won't get "cheated" after. I don't want to be buying the car only to find something broken after a few drives.

Thank you.

You should be very careful when buying used cars – from dealers or private sellers. unfortunately, there's a lot of shady business in the industry. Send these guys an email: http://www.texasautonegotiators.com – they'll help you out at no charge.

Look it over. Drive it, smell it, yes I said smell. If it has a bad smell inside or under the hood, or anywhere else, pass on it.
If anything does not feel right to you, don't buy it.
Go with your instincts, that's how you learn.

I'm completely new to craigslist and made my first post the other day. I got an email from someone saying they were interested in what I'm selling. I just replied to the email, but at the top of the email it had a section about avoiding scams and such. Im not sure how to go about safely selling these items, is it best to only sell to local people who will give cash or do people often ship the items?

What is the best and safest way to make sales from craiglist?
