girls

HOUSTON (AP) – The parents of Houston-area sextuplets born last month said Wednesday one of their daughters continues to battle some health problems but is a “fighter,” and they are looking forward to the day she and her siblings can go home, possibly in a couple of months.

Lauren and David Perkins said their three boys – Andrew, Benjamin and Levi – and two of their girls – Allison and Caroline – are doing well. One daughter, Leah, still is catching up to her siblings. she had surgery Monday to repair a portion of her bowel.

Lauren Perkins, 28, said it has been upsetting to watch Leah struggle.

“Leah is just a roller coaster for sure,” she said. “We get excited for all of her gains and then it's heartbreaking when she has a big setback. She's been able to recover from everything so far. we are just confident she will be able to pull through.”

David Perkins, 29, said dealing with Leah's health issues has helped the couple be more patient and “appreciate the small victories.”

“We are just thanking God every day for our babies and we are looking forward to bringing them home,” said Lauren Perkins, who worked as a school psychologist. she and her husband live in the Houston suburb of Pearland.

Health problems Leah was experiencing in utero prompted doctors to deliver the babies April 23, about 10 weeks premature, said Dr. Charles Hankins, a neonatologist at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.

“In a way, Leah is the boss. she continues to drive a lot of the decisions,” Hankins said. “All of the babies for their age are doing pretty much as expected. five of 6 are following a very rapid path. Leah is catching up, slowly but surely.”

Leah is the only baby who remains on a ventilator. The others are using a tube in their nose and mouth that partially inflates their lungs so their bodies don't have to work as hard, he said. Some of them could stop using this tube later this week.

Four of the babies will have their central lines, which are used to support their nutrition, removed Wednesday. Levi will have it removed Thursday. Leah will continue being fed through an IV line.

“Every time we withdraw something and it gets to stay off, that's a good thing,” Hankins said.

When the children were born, the heaviest of them weighed 2 pounds, 15 ounces. Hankins said the babies should weigh 4 to 5 pounds by the time they can go home. Doctors are hopeful that will be in about two months.

Lauren Perkins conceived the sextuplets after undergoing fertility treatment. she said when she and her husband first talked about starting a family, they thought about having two children. but they are ready to raise six children and grateful for the support received from family, friends, even strangers, she said.

“We are just an ordinary couple chosen by God with an extraordinary responsibility and an extraordinary blessing,” said David Perkins, who works as an IT analyst.

This preview of “Choke” from Glee bothers me. It’s got all the “bros” together to help Puck but of course it’s all the guys, minus Kurt. You’d think by now that I’d be used to seeing this, but it still bothers me that scenes with all the male glee club members always have him off with the girls, even if Darren is with the boys.

I don’t know what to make of This is 40, the unofficial sequel to Knocked Up. I really try and enjoy Paul Rudd, but I could live without another midlife crisis movie. I’m 40, and I think I behave better. as for that last scene with the mirror, Paul, call me if you’re willing to follow through.

This week South Park had Cartman pretending he an Kyle were a gay couple so he could fix the new girl up with Token. he really is shameless, yet a total romantic.

Of course, Kyle was not happy about the whole thing, and made his feelings known. Sadly, the scene at the basketball game at the end with Cartman professing his love via Jumbotron with Brad Paisley as backup wasn’t available online.

Dave Salmoni brought his animals to Jimmy Kimmel Live, which is always fun, because Jimmy is scared of everything. who knew Dave was so into bears? and I’m a sucker for a fennic fox.

Later he had an owl, and of course the Siberian lynx, which totally terrified Jimmy. Kitty didn’t seem the slightest bit interested in devouring the host though. maybe he was saving his appetite for the Adam Lambert concert?

Henry Rollings has some great advice for young people out there, regardless of their orientation. Big guy with a heart.

I admit I may be showing my age a bit by saying I’m excited to see the new Dallas. but the original, no matter how ridiculous it got, was so iconic in my childhood, and led to other shows like Knots Landing, Falcon Crest, and Dynasty. The new beefcake doesn’t hurt, but I have to say the haircut/scruff on Josh Henderson isn’t working for me. he needs to take off his shirt and show the abs as a distraction.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- two big events are bringing in big crowds to the Mall of America. Expect a busier than normal weekend at the MOA.

On a Saturday, assistant manager Anna Reichkitzer usually expects to see more customers at her store, the iCandy Sugar Shoppe. but this weekend is different.

“I opened early,” Reichkitzer said. “We had girls breaking down the door and it’s been like this since I opened it.”

The boost in business comes courtesy of two events that draw in specific crowds. About 8,000 fans of the ‘Hunger Games’ trilogy filled the mall’s rotunda Friday for a meet-and-greet with the cast of the upcoming movie.

“it was insane yesterday,” Reichkitzer said.

On Saturday, a centennial celebration for the Girl Scouts brought in an estimated 50,000 young shoppers.

“I think it’s hectic and busy and very fun being in the crowds,” said Devika Narayan, a Girl Scout.

“It’s a lot of fun going shopping. We’ll go to stores and stuff like that, and have a lot of fun,” said Katie Reutiman, a Girl Scout.

During the average weekend, the mall sees around 100,000 to 120,000 customers. This Friday through Sunday, however, the turnout will far exceed that, and it may even reach the 200,000 mark.

“We’re actually talking that it is possible to have comparable to Black Friday numbers,” said Bridget Jewell, a Mall of America spokesperson.

For stores like iCandy Sugar Shoppe, it makes for a hectic weekend, but it’s also a much needed push after the post-holiday lull.

“This will be really good for our month,” Reichkitzer said.

Sunday is expected to be just as busy. Disney star China Ann McClain will be performing at 10:00 a.m. to help fight traffic congestion, the Mall of America does send updates on traffic back-ups and open parking lots on Twitter (@mallofamerica).

No town hall meeting or constituent confab with freshman U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Plantation, feels complete until an audience member asks the tea party celebrity if he’d consider being the 2012 Republican vice presidential nominee.

For months, West has answered the recurring veep questions the way he did at the Jan. 3 meeting of the Federation of Boca Raton Homeowner Associations.

"if somebody were to ask, I’ve got to pray about it first. I’ve got to talk to mrs. West and my two little girls about it, and then we’ll make the best decision for our country and also for us as a family," West said.

But West offered a different response last week when Boca Raton public relations agent Barry Epstein popped the inevitable VP question on his internet TV show.

"I’ve always said that that’s something I’d have to pray about, I’d have to talk to my family about, make sure we make the right decision," West began. "but if someone asks you to step up and serve your country, I’m not going to turn my back on my country."

West added: "I’m not going to say no, but I doubt that I’m on anyone’s list for consideration."

On Friday in Jupiter, three people at a West town hall meeting submitted written questions about accepting a hypothetical invitation to join a 2012 GOP ticket.

"if people come to me and ask me to continue to serve my country in a higher capacity, I’m not going to say no. it would be an incredible privilege and honor. I doubt that I’m on anybody’s list. thank you for asking and if it came to fruition, yeah, I’d step up to the plate," West said to applause.

- In addition to the $132,432 that State Attorney Michael McAuliffe has raised for his reelection bid and the $102,500 in personal money he’s put in his campaign account, a committee headed by McAuliffe campaign consultant Rick Asnani collected $64,500 last quarter that could be used to help McAuliffe.

Citizens for Law, Order and Ethics registered last year with the Florida Division of Elections as a "committee of continuous existence." A CCE can accept unlimited donations and give unlimited amounts to other committees that make "electioneering communications" to promote or criticize candidates.

The committee logged eight donations, including $20,000 from Wellington polo patron Neil Hirsch and $10,000 apiece from sugar rivals Florida Crystals and U.S. Sugar.

McAuliffe faces a potential Democratic primary challenge from former state Sen. Dave Aronberg, who used a committee called Florida Mainstream Democrats to help his past campaigns.

- Palm Beach Gardens Mayor David Levy reported an impressive $30,381 in contributions and chipped in $5,000 of his own money during the last quarter of 2011 for his Democratic county commission bid. He’s the lone Dem in a race that has attracted five Republicans hoping to replace term-limited Commissioner Karen Marcus.

Levy got $500 from former Democratic U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler. Wexler’s former chief of staff and consultant Eric Johnson pulled in $3,500 as an adviser to Levy’s campaign.

Levy also got $500 from former County Commissioner Jeff Koons, who resigned in 2010 and pled guilty to extortion, perjury and violating open-meeting laws for pressuring opponents of a environmental project he favored.

STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) – two of the little sisters who died in a furious house fire early Christmas morning lost their way as a family friend tried to lead them to safety. Their other sister died just feet from escape, trapped inside as her grandfather perished during his rescue attempt. outside, their mother frantically tried to direct firefighters to her doomed family.

Authorities on Tuesday described that chaotic scene of frantic, futile attempts to save the three girls and their grandparents after embers in a bag of discarded fireplace ashes started the accidental fire at the grand waterfront house, which was being renovated.

“We are devastated, just like everybody else is devastated,” said Brendan Keatley, a Stamford firefighter who was at the scene.

Of the seven people in the home, there were only two survivors: the girls’ mother, a New York City fashion advertising executive; and a family friend who had worked on the home as a contractor and is believed to have placed the ashes in or outside an entryway, near the trash.

Flames quickly entered the house, spread throughout the first floor and licked upstairs, trapping the girls, the grandparents, the mother and the contractor, the city fire marshal said.

That’s when screams began to wake the neighborhood, soon followed by the whine of fire engines.

As flames shot from the home, Madonna Badger climbed out a window onto scaffolding, screaming for her children and pointing to the third floor.

Firefighters used a ladder and construction scaffolding outside the house to reach the third floor, but heat and poor visibility in a hallway turned them back, Keatley said.

The family friend, Michael Borcina, told firefighters on the ground that he had taken two girls to the second floor, but that they got separated because of the heat. Firefighters then returned to the second floor but again were forced out by the blaze’s intensity.

“Not for (not) trying, that’s for sure,” acting fire Chief Antonio Conte said.

There was somebody else trying to save the girls, too – their grandfather, Lomber Johnson. one of the girls, found dead just inside a window, had been placed on a pile of a pile of books, apparently so he could reach in and grab her after he jumped out.

Instead, authorities say, he fell through the roof outside the window and was found dead in the rear of the house.

He and his wife, Pauline, both of Southbury, had been visiting their daughter for the holidays. the grandmother also died in the fire along with 10-year-old Lily and 7-year-old twins Grace and Sarah.

One girl was found dead on the third floor, and the body of another was found with the grandmother’s at the bottom of the stairs leading to the third floor.

Four firefighters were injured, including a captain who suffered second-degree burns on his face, Keatley said.

Lomer Johnson had worked as a department store Santa Claus this season after a long career as a safety chief at Louisville, Ky.-based liquor maker Brown-Forman Corp., from which he retired several years ago.

Badger is the founder of New York-based Badger & Winters Group. she was treated at a hospital and was discharged by Sunday evening,a hospital supervisor said. her whereabouts Tuesday were unknown.

Borcina, 52, was in fair condition Tuesday at Stamford Hospital and declined to comment through a hospital spokeswoman.

He owns Tiberias Construction Inc., which renovates expensive homes and businesses. the company’s projects have included a Donna Karan store and artist Alex Beard’s studio, both in New York City, and the White House Christmas wishing tree, according to theconstruction firm’s website.

According to the Department of Consumer Protection, Borcina wasregistered for a brief time more than 10 years ago, but neither Borcina nor his company, Tiberias Construction Inc., are currently registered to perform home improvement work in Connecticut.

Property records show Badger bought the five-bedroom Victorian home for $1.7 million last year. the house was situated in ShippanPoint, a wealthy neighborhood that juts into Long Island Sound.

Most of the second floor was being renovated, and Badger was awaiting a final inspection, said Ernie Ogera, director of operations for the city of Stamford.

According to the city’s zoning ordinances, he said, the family should have been living only in the unrenovated sections of the house. Investigators do not yet know whether anyone was staying in renovated sections that had not been approved.

City building inspectors last examined the work in July and did not find any problems, he said.

There were plans for hard-wired smoke alarms, but they had not been hooked up, Ogera said. Officials did not know whether battery-operated ones were being used.

Badger previously spent time on Shelter Island, a small, exclusive community at the eastern end of New York’s Long Island. Town Supervisor James Dougherty said Tuesday that she served a few years ago on the town’s deer and tick committee, which oversees thetown’s program to maintain healthy deer while eliminating tick-borne diseases.

Borcina’s exact relationship to the family outside of his work as a contractor was unclear Tuesday. he and Badger are friends on Facebook, and he said on his Facebook page that he enjoys skydivingand scuba diving.

A person answering the phone Tuesday at the Badger & Winters Group said it had no statement or comment.

Embers from a fireplace can remain hot enough to start a fire as long as a day later, said Thomas Olshanski, spokesman for the U.S. fire Administration, an agency that handles fire data collection and public fire education. if they need to be removed, they should be put in a metal container and set outdoors for a day, he said.

This week marks the first edition of Thursday Night Football in 2011, a catch 22 for those who love the NFL. for one, fans get a fourth night of football – really, no complaints here. On the other hand, it’s 65 hours less time to toggle around with your lineup. And yes, sometimes deadline pressure leads to poor decision-making.

So, in honor of the fourth-night of football this week, every sit and start will be related to the magic number that is four. Grab your four-pack of adult beverages, help yourself to four different types of game-day grub and – if you’re feeling lucky – text four different girls that you find attractive (you’ll find the more you contact, the success rate tends to remain the same).

Start ‘Em:

The No. 1 pick-up this week has to be Laurent Robinson, who will be thrust into the starting lineup for the Cowboys as Miles Austin deals with his hammy. Already, Robinson is fourth on the team in receiving with 24 receptions for 368 yards and two touchdowns. He’s a solid WR3/flex with high upside over the next month or so.

Without Miles Austin in the lineup, Laurent Robinson has caught 15 passes for 197 yards and 2 TD.

The Boys host the Bills, owners of the 25th-ranked pass defense that has allowed opposing wide receivers to score double-digit point totals in five of their eight games this season. although the Bills are opportunistic on defense, second in the league in interceptions (15), the success has usually come when the team has captured a lead.

When trailing, the Bills have yet to record a sack and forced only five turnovers. the team has struggled defending pass plays 21 yards and over, an area where the Cowboys have thrived. Robinson, in particular, is averaging more than 15 yards per catch, and has a reception of 25 yards or more in four of six games this season.

When he filled for Austin Weeks 3 and 4, Robinson capitalized with 10 receptions for 165 yards. And last week, when Austin left early, Robinson hauled in five passes, including a touchdown.

Obviously, the Bills are going to focus their attention on shutting down the always-dangerous Dez Bryant and containing the newfound rushing attack headed by DeMarco Murray. That leaves Jason Witten and Robinson as targets that will face single coverage. I would be comfortable starting Robinson this week in what should be a high-scoring contest.

Another game that will likely include a lot of offense is the Monday night showdown between Minnesota and Green Bay. the Vikings, off a bye week, have had plenty of time to try and figure out how to attack the vulnerable Packers secondary. It also allows offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave to create a game plan for Christian Ponder, who has thrown for 455 yards and three touchdowns since being inserted into the lineup.

The week off also allowed Percy Harvin a week to get healthy. Against the Panthers in Week 8, the Vikings got Harvin more involved with a goal-line carry, in addition to 58 yards receiving, his highest total since Week 2. Harvin has averaged a measly four fantasy points per game this season, but that is bound to change with Ponder behind center. And it begins this week, because Musgrave must attack the Pack secondary.

Against San Diego last week, the Packers allowed 30 points to the Chargers wide receivers, including deep threat Vincent Jackson. This season, Green Bay is allowing the third-most fantasy points to opposing wideouts – 17.5 points per game.

In Ponder’s last start against Green Bay, he found Mike Jenkins three times for 111 yards, but spread the ball around to a total of six different receivers. Expect Harvin to steal a lot of those targets as the Vikings get their biggest playmaker involved.

Last week, we finally saw the breakout game for Julio Jones. the former Alabama standout, who had been dealing with injury earlier in the season, caught three passes, two resulting in scores. Jones totaled 131 yards on – you guessed it – four targets.

It was the explosion that we expected from Jones – averaging 44 yards per catch – on some of the more jaw-dropping plays made all season. Jones has a Vincent Jackson-like feel. his size, speed and athleticism allow

Falcons WR Julio Jones is tied with Steve Smith, Jordy Nelson and a.J. Green for most catches of 40 or more in the NFL.

him to stretch the field and compete for every ball. Currently, Jones is tied with Steve Smith, Jordy Nelson and fellow rookie A.J. Green for the most catches of 40 or more yards in the NFL.

Jones was drafted by Atlanta to force opposing defenses to respect the side of the field not occupied by Roddy White. Against Indy, White still was targeted nine times and finished the afternoon with four receptions for 76 yards, but the two wide receivers will impact each other’s fantasy output going forward.

On Sunday, the Falcons will host the Saints in an offensive showdown. the Falcons, with dome-field advantage, will also face a Saints secondary that may be without starting cornerback Tracy Porter. Patrick Robinson and Leigh Torrence filled in for the injured Porter. Advantage: Jones.

Sit ‘Em:

Dwayne Bowe owners know the frustration of starting him each week on such an inconsistent offense. And after the Chiefs fell flat on their face last week, there’s always that hope for a big rebound performance.

Not this week. not against Champ Bailey.

The Bowe-Bailey matchup has been won by the Broncos corner six out of seven times. Overall, Bowe has totaled 39 receptions for 513 yards and two touchdowns in seven career games since 2007. last year, Bowe dominated in the first matchup, with a 13-catch performance that included his first touchdowns against Bailey. but in their second showdown, Bailey held Bowe catchless.

Champ Bailey has limited Dwayne Bowe in the past, and he's shut down Brandon Marshall and Vincent Jackson in recent weeks.

This season, Bowe has four touchdowns, none since October 9, though. And Bailey is enjoying yet another tremendous season, shutting down the likes of Vincent Jackson (3 receptions, 34 yards) and Brandon Marshall (6 receptions, 64 yards) in recent weeks.

Of course I would not bench Bowe altogether – with his kind of talent and given how high you had to draft him – but I’m not confident he’ll dominate Bailey who is getting healthy and returning to his elite form. Instead, I’d feel comfortable starting Jonathan Baldwin or Steve Breaston, who hauled in seven passes for 115 yards last week, capitalizing on a team-high 11 targets.

I’m also concerned about Larry Fitzgerald this week. Like Bowe, he’ll face a shutdown corner in Nnamdi Asomugha, who week after week has limited the elite wide receivers in the league.

The Eagles secondary has the ninth-best pass defense in the league, and Asomugha is making No. 1 wideouts invisible. Since the bye week, Dez Bryant has been limited to three catches for 28 yards, Miles Austin to three catches for 27 yards, while Devin Hester and Roy Williams combined for four catches for 58 yards.

Fitzgerald will likely be without his quarterback, No. 4, Kevin Kolb for a second straight week. Sure, fill-in John Skelton was able to find Fitzgerald for the game-saving touchdowns last week, but that was against the Rams – you know, the team that has allowed the fourth-most passing touchdowns in the NFL.

Then, there’s also that whole Dream Team pressure. Yeah, yeah, we know the story, but if the Eagles want to continue to make a push towards the playoffs, it begins with a victory against the two-win Cardinals. Coming off a tough loss on Monday night to Chicago, needing to win as many games as possible to remain in contention, the defense is going to play sharp, especially at the Link.

It’s been an up and down season for Fitz, but it all stems back to his quarterbacks’ struggles. He’s yet to catch double-digit passes. he has just three touchdowns. He’s reached double-digit point totals just once, in Week 2, and has been mediocre since. Don’t count on this week for a big contribution.

Last week, Chris Ogbonnaya got the start at running for the Cleveland Browns. big whoop. Ogbonnaya responded with a lackluster 2.2 yard-per-rush average, totaling 28 yards on the day. This week, I wouldn’t touch him with a four-foot pole.

Ogbonnaya has a very tempting matchup against the Rams, who have allowed opposing running backs to score in five of their eight contests, and reach double-digit point totals six times. In Week 8, though, the Rams turned a corner, limiting new Orleans to 57 yards. they followed that outing by holding Zona to 32 yards last week.

There are plenty of waiver wire options that I would prefer over Ogbonnaya. Roy Helu faces a deceivingly good Miami rush defense, but with John Beck behind center he will be forced to check down frequently. Chris Ivory received goal-line touches in the absence of Mark Ingram, and the Falcons-Saints matchup will definitely be high scoring. even Ben Tate, who spells starter Arian Foster, has topped the 100-yard rushing mark twice in the past three games, and the Texans should attack the Bucs on the road.

Greys Anatomy Seasons 1-5 DVD Box Set

by on September 30, 2011

One of the most popular genres in TV series has always been medical drama. Grey’s Anatomy presents a fresh new view to the medical world with its clever plot and its brilliant actors. the story line follows the lives of young surgeons who try hard to make it to the program. one of the main characters on the show is Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo who had been born to be a surgeon.

Her roommates are her best friends, Izzie, played by Katherine Heigl and George O’Malley played by T.R. Knight. Meredith’s best friends are also her main rivals at the hospital. Izzie comes from a less than affluent background, trying to pay for her education by working as a lingerie model. George is nerdy and is known to befriend mostly women. his character is quite interesting since he comes across as friend to the girls and never as a boyfriend.

Cristina Yang, played by Sandra oh is another new surgeon and Alex Karev played by Justin Chambers is another member of the group who is quite a ladies man with his charms that he often uses to get close to the nurses. Cristina is very ambitious and enthusiastic about her work.

In the first season, the show kick starts with Meredith waking up after a night of impulsive sex she has with a guy she met at a bar. It turned out that the man was her boss Derek Shepherd, played by Patrick Dempsey. Miranda Bailey, played by Chandra Wilson is Meredith’s immediate boss who likes herself called the Nazi.

The interesting thing about the series is that unlike the other medical TV series, there is a more basic and personal touch to it. the main characters often discuss about their personal problems and revelations at work. the residents all compete with each other and fight over who get the best cases to get themselves considered for a full time position at the hospital.

The cast members are all strong actors, with Ellen Pompeo playing the lead role with much ease and grace. her character is more human rather than the know-it-all surgeon. Sandra oh is quite well known and she plays her character with precision and perfection while the remaining members of the cast manage to complete the picture with their characters.

Grey’s Anatomy seasons 1-5 dvd boxsets is a collection of episodes as the series evolves and take the viewers through a journey along with the characters as they struggle to make their place in the medical world and try to make sense of their personal dilemmas.

I would have made individual posts about all the things I'm about to mention, but when you have a job like I do, and its for 8 hours a day, and then they ask you to do overtime because the people that you're supposed to help are lazy, Y!/A pretty much falls way down on my priority list. I know, shocker, but never mind that.

Anyhow, alot of significant signings happened in the NFL this weekend. Julius Peppers to the Bears. Antonio Cromartie to the Jets. big Ben going out and maybe/possibly/doubtfully he touched a girls teet. I could go on.

What story caught your eye the most and why?

The story that caught my eye the most is the one where Chad(ocho cinco) Johnson was lobbying for terell owens to be on the same team as him.(Bengals)

the 3 Bears signings.

the story about having a job.

I must admit, it does my heart good to see the Squealers mired in yet more controversy. I hate it for the girl, though.

the most insane to me was boldin to ravens.

The Bears signing so many top players interested me the most. We`re all wondering how it will turn out for them and if their newly acquired players will help them to make the playoffs.

The Bears signing top free agent was a surprise. They usually try bargain hunting.

What really shocked me more was the absolute gutting of the Cardinals.

On the girls next door holly always calls hef puffin. I want a video of her saying it. I've been looking on youtube but haven't found one.

Please give me a link. Thanks

you just have to watch through the episodes i guess

Why would you want to see that? It is so annoying when she says that!!

Did you try Youtube????? Duhh.

Where to find a video of Holly Madison saying "puffin"?

Paris hilton is 'easy'. get it?

best thing on the earth. never does the hard tasks and goes with their hearts and they always sing alalallalaal.

Easy access for sex :P very disrespectful to me.

If a person is "easy", then that person is easy to get into bed with.
It's easy to convince him/her to have sex, if you even have to convince him/her at all.

Used in a sentence: I think guys are easier than girls.

not sure .. or was it easy-going ?
