NBA: Los Angeles Lakers (0-2) fall to Sacramento Kings

Marcus Thornton scored 12 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter and the Sacramento Kings opened the season in grand fashion, beating the Los Angeles Lakers at home for the first time in more than three years, 100-91 on Monday night.

Kobe Bryant scored 29 points for the Lakers, who opened the season with consecutive losses for the first time since 2002-03, putting a damper on the start of coach Mike Brown’s tenure.

“It’s not a rivalry,” Bryant said. “We beat them every year. Oh my God. I don’t care if they beat us tonight. I like (Kings owners Joe and Gavin Maloof). I hope they enjoy this.”

Kings rookie Jimmer Fredette entered to a loud ovation midway through the first quarter and then committed a double dribble the first time he touched the ball. he finished with six points.

Otherwise, it was nothing but a positive start to the season for the Kings. They went on an 11-0 run around halftime and then put together a strong finish to the third quarter led by DeMarcus Cousins. Playing with four fouls, Cousins scored eight points in the final 3:20 of the third to give Sacramento a 78-64 lead heading into the fourth.

“It was wild in there, and our players really liked the feeling of that game,” Kings coach Paul Westphal said. “The fans were just fantastic.”

Nuggets 115, Mavericks 93: Ty Lawson scored 20 of his 27 points in the first half and Denver faced little resistance in beating Dallas.

They allowed Denver to score 20 consecutive points in the second quarter — prompting boos during a particularly lousy part of that drought — and were down by 33 late in the third quarter.

One night after the Miami Heat pounded the Mavericks, the Nuggets scored on 19 of their 25 possessions in the second quarter.

Thunder 104, Timberwolves 100: Kevin Durant scored 33 points to lead Oklahoma City past host Minnesota.

Ricky Rubio of Spain had an impressive NBA debut for the Timberwolves with six assists, six points and five rebounds in 26 minutes.

The Timberwolves led 96-95 with three minutes to play when Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook drove the length of the floor, hit a layup and the free throw for a three-point play to put the Thunder ahead.

Blazers 107, 76ers 103: LaMarcus Aldridge had 25 points and seven rebounds to lead host Portland past Philadelphia.

Hornets 85, Suns 84: Eric Gordon made a 20-footer from the top of the key with 4.2 seconds to play in his new Orleans debut to push the Hornets past host Phoenix.

Gordon was part of the trade that sent Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Clippers.

Spurs 95, Grizzlies 82: Manu Ginobili scored 24 points as host San Antonio got some payback after its stunning playoff collapse last season, beating Memphis to start what could be Tim Duncan’s final season.

The Grizzlies upset the 61-win Spurs in the first round last season.

Raptors 104, Cavaliers 96: No. 1 draft pick Kyrie Irving out of Duke had a rough NBA debut for host Cleveland, scoring six points on 2-for-12 shooting.

TV ratings: the five Christmas games on opening day averaged 6.2 million viewers based on fast national ratings, up from 6 million last year. the Bulls-Lakers matchup was the third most-watched regular-season game ever on ABC.

Paul’s Clippers debut in the nightcap against the Warriors earned a 2.2 rating, up 69 percent over last year’s Portland-Golden State telecast in the same slot.

Earlier this month, Dean McDermott made headlines when he accidentally posted a photo of wife Tori Spelling‘s bare breasts to Twitter. the reality star thought he was sharing an innocent, goofy pic of their 4-year-old son Liam – but a topless mama was clearly visible in the background.

When he realized his mistake, Dean, 45, quickly deleted the tweet, but the damage was already done. So… was Tori, 38, furious at her hubby for exposing her goods on the Internet? Surprisingly, no!

The mom of three (who just gave birth to daughter Hattie in October) explained the situation to iVillage exclusively.

"I’m a new mom," she says. "I’m nursing. It’s what we do. would I prefer that picture wasn’t out there? Yeah. But you know, I was in the background. I had just finished feeding Hattie. It was a mistake. and, we just move on."

"Everyone says to me, ‘Were you mad at him?’" she adds. "and I’m like, ‘No, God. should I have been?’ the thing is, he was so devastated about it, it was such an accident that what could I do?"

An embarrassed Dean tells iVillage that he’s beyond grateful to have such an understanding partner. "you know your wife loves you when she talks you off the ledge after posting a picture of her boobs!"

The new season of the family’s reality show, Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood, premieres tonight at 10 p.m. on Oxygen.

the original lineup of Guided By Voices, from the '90s, have returned to the studio to record an album of new material right after their year-long reunion tour.

You can listen to the first official single of Guided By Voices's upcoming album, Let's Go Eat the Factory, below. the single has a quaint title, "Doughnut For a Snowman." You can expect the track to be a rather short, folky tune about a woman's taste in doughnuts, men, and everything in between. Guided by Voices are to release the 7" for "Doughnut For a Snowman" on November 28th via Fire. the 7" will also include four non-album B-sides. the band's reunion album is out January 1st via Fire. the album is comprised of 21 tracks. You can feel good about yourself.

I remember the 1950s when, as a family, we stood in line three different times to receive sugar cubes. within each of those three sugar cubes that each of us ate was contained a secret code. it was the code to defeat polio – then the scourge of the world. My own mother died of polio in the late 1940s. it was a such significant event in my life, I was four at the time, that I still remember parts of it today, 60 years later.

There is a magic sugar cube that you can take to help you feel good about yourself. it is simply to believe that you are loved unconditionally and forever by The Source of All that is. some will name this Source, God. Now, now, don’t start whining about how you just cannot bring yourself to believe that you are loved in this manner.

Have you enough belief to go out and turn on the ignition in your vehicle and expect that it will start? at least 99 out of 100 times? Then you have enough belief (or faith) to take in that you are loved unconditionally.

This being loved just as you is the secret code to feeling good about yourself.

You take this as if it were the magic sugar cube to defeat polio. You take this in as if it were the secret code to your feeling good about yourself. it is that. When you know that you are loved by The Source, you know that everything you or are not, is loved. everything you have done or not done, is loved. (Yes, even the bad stuff is loved by The Source.) everything you have said or not said, is love. All unconditionally. no strings attached. even everything, I do mean everything, that you have thought or not thought, is loved. All you have to do is believe.

Belief is a choice. A choice that you can make freely and without self-reproach every minute you are awake. Belief is an act of will. An act of will to accept that The Source loves you and always will. no matter what. therefore, feel good about yourself.

Labor Day sermons help the congregation understand the Biblical interpretation of work. in our culture today, we don’t appreciate the value of service like we should. We are too busy playing with our iPads or playing golf to worry about working while there is certainly a place for entertainment and relaxation, most Christians don’t understand that there is a Biblical view of labor and service that we should follow. God wants us to glorify him in everything we do, but most people don’t understand exactly how that works. the Labor Day holiday weekend is the perfect opportunity to preach a sermon about service to others. here are a few topics you could preach about on Labor Day Weekend:

Attitude about Service
Many Christians have a negative attitude about work. they are happy and content on Sunday morning, but they become totally different people on Monday morning We all would like to work less, but most people have the wrong view of jobs and service. they don’t see how their job and their service in their job can be a ministry. Jesus has called all of us to a life of service, and part of that service is serving our employer in our job. Labor Day sermons are a great time to discuss the correct Biblical attitude about service in your job.

Job is a blessing from God
Our job is a blessing from God. Losing a job and a loss of income can become a nightmare. Ask anyone who is disabled and can’t work, and see how they like not working not having a job sounds like fun for a little while, but it is not fun if you can’t pay your bills. no matter how difficult of a job you have, your career is still a blessing from the Lord. Be sure to thank the Lord for the job he has provided for you.

Joseph’s faithful service to his country
The story of Joseph in the book of Genesis is one of the first examples of work and service in the Bible. Joseph’s faithful service when he was a slave led him to become 2nd in command in Egypt, but he never forgot his family even after his brothers sold him into slavery. Joseph could have easily used his power to punish his family for what they did to him, but Joseph instead loved his family and served them.

The importance of the Sabbath
You can also recognize the importance of the Sabbath on Labor Day weekend. Genesis 2:2 talks about how God ended his work and rested on the seventh day. If we want our work to be truly blessed by God, we should rest on the 7th day. our society today has trained us to believe that working happens from 9 to 5 every day, and then we have the rest of the day off Labor Day weekend is a great time to remind the congregation that work happens six days a week and not 40 hours a week, and you should still take time off on Sundays. Labor Day sermons are a great time to discuss the importance of observing the Sabbath in our lives.

The Labor Day holiday is a great time to discuss the Biblical view of service. There may not be a lot of questions about him on this forum. but this issue is all over Youtube. all you have to do is type his name in the search. I feel this man is guilty and he is destroying the lives of young boys. As far as I am concerned, his church is the church of evil and it needs to be burned to the ground.

Cherokee Valley Hopes ‘Idol’ Visit Sheds Light on Community

As you know, because Lauren Alaina made American Idol’s Top Three, she got to come home this past weekend for a whirlwind visit of performances, parades and appearances.but Lauren hadn’t seen any storm damage in person until the visit, and she went to Ringgold, one of the hardest hit areas. Specifically, Cherokee Valley Road, and the people there are hoping their exposure this week will shed light on the strength of their community.Cherokee Valley Baptist Church Pastor Franky Ridley and many other volunteers have been trying to help the area every day.”They’ve just helped pull the community together,” said Meleisa Ware.Ware lives off Cherokee Valley Road. Her house collapsed on top of her and her husband during the tornado.”God was the reason we survived,” Ware said.It’s been an emotional time for Ware and the entire neighborhood. She’s leaned on the nearby church, where Ridley and volunteers have been feeding hundreds of families since the tornado hit. the church is open to those needing donations on Saturdays and Sundays.”For me, I don’t see how any one cannot break down, and understand the deprevity and the disasters that’s happened to these families,” Ridley said, speaking about Lauren Alaina’s breakdown when she came to the area.Ridley says he’s looking forward to the national attention from American Idol so millions can see how they’re healing.”It’s brought a community together, and I hope that’s what this does on national news, that shows, let the church be the church.”If you’d like to help the Cherokee Valley area, Pastor Ridley says they need monetary donations like gift cards to give to families for long-term planning.They’ll be featured Thursday night during American Idol’s results show starting at 8 p.m.
