job

The Denver Nuggets took on the LA Lakers in NBA Playoff action Sunday night. Some of you may have missed them getting called for having too many nut jobs on the court at one time.

Yes, a mad woman, who is either a stalker or a frustrated fan that felt she could do a better job running the Nuggets’ offense, ran onto the court last night, forcing our brains to work overtime to recall all the other zany misadventures of fans getting on the field of play.

These are the moments that truly make you stand up and shout, “double-u, tee, eff.”

They stop the action on the court, field and pitch for no other reason than they have lost their damned minds.

I wish I could say that I hate it, that their actions were deplorable and without placement in sports. however, that would be a horrible lie.

I am captivated by the oft-times hilarious and other times scary actions of these true fanatics.

They have a place in sports alright, and it’s right here as a member of the crazy elite.

Raising Your Overall GPA

by on May 7, 2012

Raising your GPA is important for many reasons. it will increase your chances of acceptance into graduate programs and even make you a stronger candidate for a job. Simple math is used to determine your GPA, and simple math can be used to calculate useful projections of your GPA. Generally speaking, the more units you have taken, the harder it will be to make upward movement of your GPA. in some cases, you will need to take many units to raise your GPA to your goal. To maximize your GPA from here on out, you will obviously need to maintain a 4.0GPA (maximum for college scale). If you are unable to maintain a 4.0, any GPA higher than your current GPA will make a smaller positive impact on your GPA.

Here are some examples:

current GPA 2.75 (150 units) : goal=3.00GPA – you would need to maintain a 4.0 GPA for 37.5 units to reach your goal

current GPA 2.75 (50 units) : goal=3.00GPA- you would only need to maintain a 4.0 GPA for 12.5 units to reach your goal

current GPA 2.75 (50 units) : goal=3.00GPA- you would need to maintain a 3.5 GPA for 25 units to reach your goal

current GPA 2.75 (50 units) : goal=3.00GPA- you would need to maintain a 3.1 GPA for 125 units to reach your goal

current GPA 3.5 (180 units) : goal=3.75GPA- you would need to maintain a 4.0 GPA for 180 units to reach your goal

Other example calculations for max possible GPA:

currently have 3.0 (150 units), 50 units remaining – max possible obtainable GPA would be 3.25

currently have 3.5 (200 units), 25 units remaining – max possible obtainable GPA would be 3.56

currently have 2.0 (100 units), 100 units remaining – max possible obtainable GPA would be 3.00

currently have 1.5 (100 units), 150 units remaining – max possible obtainable GPA would be 2.50

Raising Your Overall GPA

Tim Farrell/The Star-LedgerGiants quarterback Eli Manning is enjoying the process leading up to hosting Saturday Night Live this week, per the advice of brother Peyton and former NFL coach and broadcaster John Madden.

Eli Manning grew up watching Saturday Night Live, so when producer Lorne Michaels asked him to host in 2008 following the Giants’ winning Super Bowl XLII, Manning considered the possibility.

But he realized he hadn’t yet “proven” himself as a quarterback and had more work to do in the offseason. Plus, it was only a year removed from his brother Peyton’s memorable hosting stint.

“I thought it would be a little fresh in everyone’s mind so I didn’t want to have to go up against tough competition and the great job he’d performed,” Eli said today on a conference call with Michaels to promote his hosting the show this Saturday, adding: “I kind of remember saying, ‘I do want to do the show at one point. I just want to do it maybe after my next championship.’ so when this opportunity came up again and we won a championship again, I knew if they asked I would definitely want to jump on that opportunity if the timing worked out.

“It all worked out and I’m looking forward to this week.”

Manning is two days into preparation for this weekend’s episode. He, Michaels, the writers and the cast have been going through potential skits to see what ideas might work. Michaels said this afternoon they’ll read and discuss about 40-45 ideas and boil them down to about a dozen. the work will continue through Friday’s rehearsal, at which point they’ll have an idea which skits they’ll be doing on Saturday.

Manning is enjoying this part of the process, per a suggestion he received from Peyton and another NFL personality who has hosted before.

“Fifteen minutes before I got on this call, John Madden called me and he gave me the same piece of advice,” Manning said of the former coach and broadcaster, who hosted SNL in 1982. “He was asking if they did things the same way, the same schedule and routine. and it is, it’s really similar to when he did it many, many years ago. Listening to both those people and they had the same advice: enjoy every moment during the week and working with the cast and stay up with them and just have a blast doing that.”

Before agreeing to host SNL, Manning went through a mock schedule of what the week would look like for him because he didn’t want to miss any workouts or on-field drills with his teammates. the past two days, he’s gone to the team’s facility before heading into Manhattan in the afternoon for meetings and such.

Manning said his teammates have been asking how the process has been and are planning viewing parties to watch the show in groups. There’s a chance the understated prankster could take a few jabs at his teammates or coach (MG says: Lorne, if you’re reading, a uncharacteristically loosened-up Coughlin would be a tremendous starting point for a skit) but it has to make sense for the entire audience, not just the Giants/NFL fans watching.

However, Michaels has no doubt Manning’s personality will resonate with all viewers.

“He’s both charming and radiates a certain kind of intelligence,” Michaels said, “and a kind of – I don’t know how to say this but – you sort of believe he doesn’t take himself too seriously. I mean, I think he takes his work very seriously but there’s a sort of essential modesty to him and that plays well with what we do. If the host is spending a lot of time protecting an image, it’s exhausting for us.”

With perfect timing, Manning added: “I’m blushing, Lorne. Thank you.”

Manning will need to display such comedic chops on Saturday to reveal to those who don’t follow him closely he has a pretty good sense of humor that doesn’t often reveal itself to the cameras.

“the good thing about Saturday Night Live is you come in and maybe express a different side that people don’t see. and maybe that’s not you at all times but for this night, you can kind of let loose,” he said. “That’s one thing I would say about Peyton and I. We don’t mind making fun of (ourselves) or letting jokes be at our own expense. It’s important to have that attitude when you’re going into this week.”

He added: “It’s going to be a great experience and great fun and looking forward to getting deeper in the week and finding out what I might be doing. probably right now I’m more anxious than anything, just trying to figure out what’s in front of me and what I’ll be asked to do.”

If you haven’t seen Manning’s promos, check them out here:

So what’s Manning’s favorite SNL skit of all time?

“I guess Chris Farley and Patrick Swayze doing the dancing with the Chippendales,” he said. “That’s always a classic. If I truly sat down and thought of it, I would think of a top 10 from there and pick the all-time. but that one always kind of pops in my head. just a classic scene.

“but over the years it’s fun watching. I have a pretty good collection of the best of SNL of several different cast members that are always fun to watch and see some of their behind the scenes and their tryouts. I am a fan and watch the show and that style of humor, I appreciate it. That’s what I enjoy to watch.”

And now, the skit he was referencing, featuring two talented guys gone way too soon:

A good quote from Michaels that just didn’t fit anywhere above: “The good part about athletes is they’re used to being in front of large groups of people and not knowing how it’s going to turn out. We don’t really know until dress rehearsal what’s beginning to work and what’s not working. and then there’s a lot of course correcting, if we do it this way it might work better.’ There’s still some risk involved. … We know how Eli reacts both under pressure and also with changing things quickly. I don’t think we’re making any other kind of concessions in choosing an athlete over an actor, comedian or singer or politician for that matter.”

Manning was asked one football-related question, and it was about the NFL levying severe penalties on a few Saints player, including linebacker Jonathan Vilma who was suspended for the entire 2012 season.

“This is news to me. This is the first I’m hearing of this,” said Manning, who was critical of the bounty system when asked about it in March. “What Roger Goodell has done – and he’s been harsh on this whole bounty thing, on the Saints’ coaches and players – I think he’s doing the right thing to make sure this doesn’t happen again. There’s no room for any bounty system in the NFL. It’s a physical sport and you’ve got to respect the game. He’s been harsh to try to make a statement, saying there’s no place for this in the game of football.”

Highlights of NFL draft chat

by on April 25, 2012

Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore, Washington running back Chris Polk and Washington defensive tackle Alameda Ta’amu talked Tuesday about this week’s NFL draft in a live chat with readers. here are the highlights.

Q: Kellen, when growing up as a kid, did you root for the Seahawks?

Moore: Absolutely. I loved Matt Hasselbeck.

Q: does Moore equal Drew Brees?

Moore: I think it’s very easy to relate to him because of the size factor. Awesome quarterback and definitely someone I continue to look at as an example.

Q: I get tired of all the people asking you about your size. Do you shake your head sometimes at why the question gets asked so often?

Moore: I laugh at it a lot. I think it’s just a piece of data that’s very easy to recognize and discuss.

Q: was Justin Wilcox on the BSU staff when you were there? Anything you can tell us about him?

Moore: yes, he was. he in fact recruited me to Boise State from Prosser. Awesome guy, great coach and really one of the big reasons I went to Boise State.

He’ll do a great job at Washington. Well, except for the opener in 2013. That’s the only game I will not be rooting for U-Dub.

Q: What’s more important: arm strength or accuracy?

Moore: Accuracy, no question. You can throw it as hard as you want, but if you throw it nowhere close to your receiver, you’re not going to win many games.

Q: Alameda, if you could choose your team, what team would you choose?

Ta’amu: I’d go to the Raiders. I grew up rooting for the Raiders. I was born there. That’s why my name is Alameda. but I was raised in Seattle, so I wouldn’t mind staying here, either.

Q: was David DeCastro as strong as most people say?

Ta’amu: Yeah. Everything they say about DeCastro being strong and feeling his presence, that’s true. he was explosive.

Q: NFL scout question that made you laugh?

Ta’amu: if I was a dog or a cat. You already know. I’m a Dawg.

Q: What round and number have scouts been saying you’ll go?

Ta’amu: Probably mid-second. Then on down to the fourth round.

Q: Chris, do you see yourself fitting into the Seahawks’ zone-blocking scheme?

Polk: Yeah, very much so. Coach Sark learned under Pete Carroll, so we have basically the same plays, the same offense. I think I would fit in well.

Q: Do you see yourself as an every-down back in the NFL or a change-of-pace guy?

Polk: I have a more physical type of running style. I’m not going to just try to outrun someone.

Q: How much do you weigh, and what do you expect your playing weight to be?

Polk: Right now, I’m 216, and probably 215 to 220 is where I’ll play best at.

Q: What NFL player would you be most honored to be compared with?

Polk: I would definitely say Emmitt Smith. That was definitely a running back I looked up to while growing up.

Laminate flooring is one of the easiest ways to add value and improve the look of your homes interior. Not only are laminate floors easy to install but they are also long lasting and low maintenance. because of these attributes laminate flooring is great choice for the DIY home improver. While installing laminate flooring is straight forward and quite easy task you will need to decide the direction of laying laminate flooring that will look the best in your home. take some time and make sure that you make the right decision before you start the job because changing your mind after you start can cost you time and money and a installed floor you are not happy with will be there a long time.

Most experts will tell you that the best direction of laying laminate flooring is perpendicular to the longest floor joints. the reason for this is so you do not have any laminate floor planks running directly on top of a sub floor joint. If you end up with joints running on top of each other some experts claim that your floor could flex and settle more with the home and give you high or low spots. However many people find the best direction of laying laminate flooring is so the flooring runs parallel to the sunlight coming into the room. Flooring planks that run parallel to the sunlight coming into the room will help spread the sunlight farther across the room and increase the spread of the shine on the floor.

Sub floor seams and sunlight direction may seem trivial to you but they all play an important role when you are deciding the best direction of laying laminate flooring in your home. all things the decision should come down to what you think looks the best because you are the one who needs to be happy and enjoy your new floor.

LINCOLN, NEB – Nebraska State Treasurer and U.S. Senate candidate Don Stenberg, released the following statement today in response to the nation’s latest unemployment report:

According to leading economists, the U.S. economy continues to languish as evidenced by today’s weak jobs report. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. job growth slowed in March, and the labor force shrank, signaling that the economy could be losing momentum.

“Today’s weak unemployment numbers reminds us that the nation is stuck in an economic sickness that can only be cured by real change in Washington – starting with President Obama,” Stenberg said.

“Americans are looking for real relief from continued high unemployment and a struggling economy. and Nebraskans want a proven fiscal conservative to replace Ben Nelson.”

“As State Treasurer I have cut my budget by 13% and as Attorney General, I operated the office on the third smallest budget in the United States,” Stenberg said.

“As Nebraska’s next United States Senator, I will work to strip job-killing regulations on small businesses, slash government spending, and vote to repeal ObamaCare so all Nebraskans can keep their jobs and provide for their families, ” he said.

“If America is going to remain an exceptional nation, full of opportunity, we cannot afford four more years of Obama,” Stenberg said.

Weak Jobs Report Signals Need for Change in Leadership

Keith Olbermann was fired from his job as a news commentator on Current TV Friday and went on The Late show with David Letterman Tuesday to tell his side of the story. Olbermann joked about the whole situation, admitting that he “screwed up” by deciding to bring Countdown to Current TV in the first place.

Olbermann first put all the blame on himself, telling Letterman that, “I screwed up really big on this. Let’s just start there. I thought we could do this. It’s my fault that it didn’t succeed in the sense that I didn’t think the whole thing through.”

However, he sounded like he was trying to back away from that statement, by comparing himself to an expensive chandelier without a place to put it, suggesting that Current TV did not have a way to support him. “If you buy a $10 million chandelier, you should have a house to put it in,” he said, notes TIME. “Just walking around with a $10 million chandelier isn’t going to do anybody a lot of good, and it’s not going to do any good to the chandelier. And then it turned out we didn’t have a lot to put the house in to put the chandelier in, and we didn’t have a building permit.”

According to ABC News, Olbermann had agreed to a five-year, $50 million contract with Current, the progressive news network founded by former vice president Al Gore and has continued to struggle to draw an audience. Olbermann told Letterman that he knew as soon as “last July” that it was not a good idea and admitted, “I was never even sure it was actually on television.”

Olbermann now heads to court to figure out how much of the money he will receive. according to The Hollywood Reporter, Olbermann, through litigator Patty Glaser, is seeking $40 million in damages, which would make up for the rest of the contract. When Current fired him, they cited a breach of contract due to “unauthorized absences” and “disparagement,” claiming that he took more vacation days in the first two months of 2012 than he was allowed. Sources close to Olbermann challenge that, though, and claim that Current’s facilities were below standards.

Current announced that it will air an hour hosted by former new York Governor Eliot Spitzer in Olbermann’s place. Spitzer’s show debuted on Friday, meaning that Olbermann did not get to sign-off on air.

Ballroom dancing pro and amateur leprechaun Tristan MacManus will be checking in with EW.com each week as he and partner Gladys Knight go for the coveted mirrorball trophy.

All done now, just gettin’ home. everyone did a great job tonight. I think Jack Wagner really stepped it up as well. The last three weeks now, the people who have gone first have really set the tone for everyone. I think it’s great to see. It’s going to be a very difficult elmination tomorrow. It’s very strange to get three 8s and still have the possibility of goin’ home. It’s gonna happen to somebody.

Are the judges’ scores too high too soon? I don’t know if there’s any agenda, but you can certainly only judge it on what you see. they weren’t so high last week! The scores are the scores — we’ll take the comments and we don’t have to worry about the scores, know what I mean? We just have to worry about whether we’re staying or not.

On “memorable year” night: We were celebratin’ Gladys’ first tour — I think it was the first time she went away from home as well, when she was 13. Just shows how much times have changed now, but yeah, she went on tour at a very young age, and she’s basically been a professional since then. so that’s pretty inspirational. From the way she described going on tour with icons like Sam Cooke and James Brown, it sounded like she would have been goin’ to see them even as a fan — like how fans of hers must feel, you know? she would’ve been the same. But at the same time she had a job to do as well, had to learn from ‘em.

We danced the foxtrot to Sam Cooke’s “Cupid,” a song Gladys has a big connection with — it’s just real typical of his style of song, I guess, and it’s real smooth. certainly it was a simpler time, with love — that’s what she says. you know, the way people used to talk to each other on those kind of simple terms. It’s different now, you know what I mean? it was very romantic and stuff then. I guess that’s a big part of why we chose that song. I’m a big Sam Cooke fan anyway, so it was delightful that we got to dance to it.

On staging the foxtrot with the door and window: Yeah, it was basically tryin’ to tell a story of some sort. I guess it was, from that point of view, it was the courting situation, you know, where you go to their house and you court someone and you pick ‘em up? I guess the idea behind the window was that at the time, people were excited about goin’ on these dates. you would’ve been by the window waitin’ for someone to call on the door, I guess?

Don’t your dates always wait by the window? they should! no, don’t know about that one! Probably hidin’ behind it and I’m knockin’ on the door for hours.

New haircut? cut me hair! Got it cut just before the show in the hair trailer. I don’t really care what it looks like. I don’t like to have to spend time fixin’ my hair, you know? I just let it be how it is. It’s never been ponytail-long. Just kind of longer, I suppose.

What are your tattoos? I’ve got one on me left arm that’s Irish writin’ that says “My family, my friends, my heart.” and then I have my surname down my ribs. On the other side then I have half a bull — that’s from an Irish tale — and that goes along with the other ones I have on me arm there. They’re all mythical characters, I guess. They’re all Irish literature. so I have one… two… three… I’ve got four on me right arm. The one on me forearm isn’t finished yet. I need to get that finished when I go back to Ireland. That’ll all tie it together.

So you’re like the embodiment of Ireland. I’m Ireland. It’s just Irish mythology and history I guess. and then the ring on me hand is a history of Ireland ring that has all sorts of symbols of Irish things.

On the crowd’s uproarious reaction to William Levy: It’s unbelievable! But he’s doin’ a great job, know what I mean? He would’ve been gettin’ those screams anyway. certainly if they weren’t screamin’ for his looks they’d be screamin’ for his dancin’. He deserves it all.

The open shirt this week helped. Yeah, I think a lot of people were waitin’ for that one all right. I can’t follow that one!

On Jaleel White crying in the celebriquarium: it was an emotional week. I think the thing that we miss a little bit is that these are personal stories to whoever it is, whoever’s tellin’ em. Just because we might not find ‘em that emotional — people tend to compare the stories, you know? People tend to say well he’s crying, he’s not crying, he’s crying. That’s their own personal story — only he knows how much it means to him and what it means to him. So yeah, it’s not a case where anyone was surprised. He’s done a great job, and it’s kind of up to himself how he’s reactin’. I kind of only heard part of what he was saying at the time actually — it’s always hard to hear the whole thing with all the noise.

Do the pros actually use the term ‘celebriquarium’? I don’t know! It’s just a big room sittin’ in the clouds, know what I mean? it is what it is.

As told to Annie Barrett — more next week!

All Rajon Rondo has done lately is be perfect.

Rondo did have a few blights on his resume in Friday's win over the Timberwolves. he committed two turnovers and hit only three of his 11 shots, if we're splitting hairs, but those flaws hardly registered during a 17-assist performance in which he commanded the Celtics offense as well as he has all season.

Rondo extended his run of double-digit assist games to 12 straight contests, and when he looked over at Celtics coach Doc Rivers in the fourth quarter to see what play he should call, Rivers shook him off.

"You're doing a great job," Rivers told him. "you call the game."

Other than a set play out of timeout, Rivers said, everything the Celtics ran from then on was Rondo's call.

Whether coincidence or cause, Rondo's two-game suspension for tossing the ball at an official preempted his current run of strong play. he has played 19 games since the suspension and reached double figures in assists in all but two of those games. he is averaging 12.4 assists per game since the suspension, up from his Eastern Conference best 9.5 assists per game average before he was given the heave-ho.

Just as importantly, Friday's game was the fifth time in the last six games that Rondo committed three turnovers or fewer, making him the biggest contributor to the Celtics' 20-9 turnover advantage. he did not commit his first turnover until the final minute of the third quarter.

"I've been trying to keep my turnovers down the last couple of weeks," Rondo said. "If we don't turn the ball over, we have a better chance of winning the game, so as the point guard I try to take care of the ball."

A little more than a month ago, a vocal cross-section of Celtics supporters were calling for team president of basketball operations Danny Ainge to trade Rondo. that ouster never came, and it has become hard to envision the Celtics having the same level of success without him.

"he has a great grasp of our team, who's rolling and what we should run," Rivers said. "That's great when we can get into those kinds of flows."

Right now, the Celtics offense flows through Rondo. And it could not flow more smoothly.

Free Sports Picks From the best Source – How To get Them

Have you ever wondered how the major players in sports betting get the job done? there are a number of different sources around the internet and offline that you could use in your betting, but you need to make sure that they come from a quality source or else you’ll just be wasting your time and your money. It’s important to remember that not every place that offers free sports picks will give you something good. Otherwise, everyone would use them and all of the sports books would run out of money. So, how you know where you can get the best picks for free?

Beyond that, you should look for a service that will give you a free pick over the phone or through e-mail. Absolutely anyone can post a bunch of sports picks on a web site – that doesn’t make them high quality or any more correct than choosing at random. if a company or a group is willing to pick up the phone and call you or write down an e-mail message with some free picks, then chances are good that they have some quality information to share with you.

First of all, you should never trust a website or service that gives away all of their picks for free. There’s almost no way that a service like that can make any money, therefore they’re probably not high quality. Instead, you should look for a service that offers you some free sports picks as a preview or a trial of their premium picks. if they are willing to give away some good insider information, then there’s a good chance that you’ll be able to get much more from them.

More specifically, you should look for a service that uses a team of veteran sports handicappers to choose the picks. if you find a service that is simply made up of one guy in a basement, you’re not going to get much good information. the more experience that someone has in the betting industry, the more likely it is that their picks will be winners. just like so many things in life, with betting you get better with age and experience. One of their secrets is receiving free picks from insider sources.

Take some time to look around and you will be able to tell the difference between a good picks service and one that is run by amateurs. if you want a high quality service that puts all of these good characteristics together, then you need to check out. they will hook you up with free sports picks so you can see how high quality their handicappers really are.
