Congressman Rick Berg today released the following video statement in response to President Obama’s economic recovery proposals presented in a joint session of Congress this evening:

“Our nation faces unprecedented challenges, and the stakes—our children and grandchildren’s futures— are high. Now is not the time to backtrack and pursue the same failed, Washington big government policies that have paralyzed small business and persist as road blocks to job creation and economic growth.

“We have already seen the consequences of this Washington style approach. Two years ago, Washington threw hundreds of billions of dollars into a failed stimulus that failed to create the jobs we need to get our economy back on track. yet tonight, the President requested another round of government stimulus.

“Let’s be clear—we cannot spend our way to recovery. Washington isn’t just broken—it’s broke—and driving our country even further into debt will not give our small businesses the certainty they need to create jobs.

“Now, I spent the past month holding town halls— listening to the people of North Dakota. One thing is clear. North Dakotans don’t want more speeches—they want solutions.

“In North Dakota, we know that jobs come from small business—not big government. and to get Americans back to work, Washington needs to step back so that small businesses can do what they do best—creating jobs and investing in our economy.

“This first means reining in onerous regulations. Washington’s overreach and constantly changing rules have burdened our job creators with billions of dollars in unnecessary costs every year, making it harder to do business and difficult to create much needed jobs.

“We also need to invest in our national resources by encouraging energy production within our borders. Reining in excessive regulations and affirming our commitment to American energy will not only help us break our dependence on foreign oil, but will also help lower energy costs and create good American jobs.

“Furthermore, we need to increase opportunity for our American businesses to grow and sell their products. a robust export agenda is a key part of our path to national recovery, and I’m encouraged by the growing support for implementing pending free trade agreements with South Korea, Colombia and Panama.

“Finally, we need to break Washington’s habit of out of control spending. our nation is facing a spending-driven debt crisis, and the only way to solve it is by reining in the spending and forcing Washington to only spend what it takes in. That’s why I support a Balanced Budget Amendment, which would fundamentally change the way Washington works. North Dakota balances its budget. American families balance their budgets. Washington needs to do the same to give American families and small businesses the certainty and confidence they need to make long-term investments in our recovery.

“We can’t do the same thing over and over again and expect different results. North Dakotans know that Washington’s way of doing things isn’t working and it’s time for things to change. We’ve seen these common sense solutions work in North Dakota. It’s time to do the same in Washington.”

One was McCain but I don't know the last two republicans mentioned in the speech about Universal Health care that occurred last week. Thanks for the help!

I think Orrin Hatch was mentioned

All I heard was John McCain, because Obama stole all of his ideas. Once a thief, always a thief.

I want to compare zeus and the president of the united states for a school project. How could i do this?

The president is the head of the executive branch of the government, balancing power with the judicial and legislative branches. He/she also has many helpers, like department heads, take the attorney general, Eric Holder, for example.

Zeus is the supreme ruler, but his brothers Poseidon and Hades have jurisdiction over the sea and the under world respectively. Zeus also has helpers, for example Athena is patron of civilization, strength, skill and justice.

The other branches/brothers have checks and balances over the president/Zeus. Judicial branch can rule on the constitutionality of executive orders, Hades can take souls etc. Although it should be noted that Zeus power is greater then all other divinities powers combined, while the executive branch has many checks on it.

You yahoo Zeus then you yahoo Obama and see if you can make any comparisons.

They are both leaders of the people

For starters, I'm pretty sure the President isn't Greek.

It seems they are loving to pit people against each other while ignoring stories on high gas prices, record foreclosures, illegal immigration crisis, jobs being outsourced, and the soon to be 1 trillion dollars of expenditure in iraq etc….
Last few times I turned channel to CNN, I have found them trying to stir up racial hatred among americans while not doing their jobs and addressing the issues.

They are a joke.

Good luck with your one person boycott. you guys all watch Fox, so I don't see how it will affect CNN.

Why are you surprised that liberals would operate that way?

The media didn't raise the racial issue, Obama and his pastor did that all on their own. Blame the right source there would you please. It was Rev Wright's hateful sermon(s), then Obama's speech which has brought this on themselves.

CNN is not doing it The Obama campaign and his Pastor are stirring up the racial strife and it will only get worse.~~~

Are you sure you don't mean FOX? CNN is the more "Left" cable news station.

That damn Bush is running CNN now hey!!!

Any one heard about the boycott of CNN headline news for sensasionalizing race and divisiveness?

Since Sarah Palin and her e-mail is fair game to liberals, why don’t we try the same with Barak?

Let’s have the Heritage Foundation post the personal e-mail addresses, phone numbers and locations of Barak’s family members, and let’s start publishing all of his e-mails.

The liberals who did this to Palin as accomplices to the real hacker had absolutely no concept of privacy rights or the safety of Palin’s children. why should we have any respect for Obama’s?

Obama’s contingent has signed business deals in India, notably the purchase of aircraft from Boeing and turbines from GE. It is claimed that these deals support 53,670 jobs, if not create new ones. I mean, Boeing and GE already are huge companies with a million plus workforce. how was this figure of 53,670 arrived at? if the deals were about greenfield investments, it makes sense. But in this case??

How did the US arrive at a precise figure of 53,670 jobs claimed to be supported by the recent trade deals?

President Obama at 2:30 pm EST today will announce his new chief of staff: former Clinton Commerce Secretary Bill Daley.

The seventh and youngest child of the late Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley, Daley may possibly be very best known by the public for not-conceding on election evening as the campaign chair for Al Gore’s 2000 presidential campaign.

But there’s clearly much a lot more that Daley represents. Daley - until finally now an executive at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co — brings business ties to the job, ones critics say have been sorely lacking in this White House.

Eisenhower, Kennedy, Carter, Reagan, Clinton and Obama made it.

In a saner world, freedom lovers could have rested easy, knowing that an impartial, Constitution-respecting judge would summarily reject the administration’s unlawful scheme to thwart Arizona’s sovereignty by superimposing its own nonenforcement policy.

But in her decision, Clinton appointee Bolton demonstrated how dangerous judicial activism can be to our individual liberties and democratic processes. It’s one thing for a court to invalidate a law because it doesn’t pass constitutional muster; it’s quite another for it to misstate the facts, the legislation and the Constitution to reach a preordained decision.

Just consider three outrages of this decision highlighted by other commentators, any of which, individually, makes a mockery of justice. Andy McCarthy properly observes that Judge Bolton stretched the federal pre-emption doctrine to absurd limits. under Bolton’s specious reasoning, state law must be struck down not only if it is inconsistent with federal law, which the Arizona law is not, but also if it somehow contradicts federal law enforcement practices. Because the Obama feds refused, as a matter of policy, to enforce their own law against illegal immigration, the state could not be allowed to pass a law promoting enforcement. Note that nothing in the actual Constitution or case law justifies such an extrapolation of pre-emption doctrine. But such trifles don’t impede an administration and court determined to keep the immigration floodgates open at any cost.

Mark Levin notes that Judge Bolton correctly enunciated the rigorous legal standard required for a plaintiff to succeed in a “facial challenge” to a law’s constitutionality but then proceeded to ignore the rules she had just affirmed. she acknowledged that for the federal government to have prevailed, it would have had to show the law could never be applied in a constitutional fashion. That is, “a facial challenge must fail where a statute has a ‘plainly legitimate sweep.’” But she ignored that limitation on her authority, just as she violated another principle she paid lip service to in her opinion: that the court was not to speculate about hypothetical cases.

Heather Mac Donald exposes Judge Bolton’s acquiescence to the Obama administration’s “carefully cultivated fiction” that the administration’s primary motive with the lawsuit was to prevent the application of the law to legal aliens. the judge ignored uncontroverted testimony and legal briefs from Arizona officials stating that only people who were reasonably suspected to be illegally in the country would be required to prove their legal status. so to protect legal aliens from a law that doesn’t apply to them, she refuses to apply the law to illegals.

Cynical observers of the political scene lazily dismiss each unfolding Obama outrage as merely Washington politics as usual. But with this administration, we’re witnessing power grabs that are different in kind rather than degree.

Our liberties depend on our preserving the integrity of the Constitution and the mechanisms it established to deter tyranny. to the extent we dismantle those safeguards, we imperil our freedoms.

When the political class is filled with those who are ideologically committed to certain political ends irrespective of the legality of the means used to achieve them, our system of checks and balances breaks down, which is one reason John Adams warned, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. it is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

November’s elections cannot come fast enough.

Another Day Another Federal Assault on Liberty – David Limbaugh

We all know he was incredibly marketable before he was elected and at the beginning of his term. after all of his mistakes and supporting losing candidates and such. does Obama still have the ability to Flash a smile and do what he wants, or is his popularity plummeting that much?
