Welcome to the big show, mr. DeCastro!

Loving the Steelers pick. We need O-linemen, and this guy looks like a quintessential Steeler. Putting aside the fact that I am all about linemen, and all my favorite players have been linemen, I like smart players on the o-line (and the o-line usually is the smartest group of guys on any team, scoring the highest on the wonderlic, which makes sense, because offensive line is the hardest position in the sport mentally to master), so having a big, old-school Stanford grad is awesome. Dumb people don’t graduate from Stanford. It will be interesting to see what we do with Gilbert. like to see a tackle as our next pick, then maybe a DT since my man Casey (I have his jersey, an autographed ball, autographed photo, and he has been my favorite player for years, so much so that mom gives me Christmas presents signed “Casey” every Christmas) is aging and Hoke retired.

The shock for me tonight was Bruce Irvin going at #15. I’ve watched him for two years, and I thought he was a good player with a lot of heart, but one-dimensional, lacking size, and probably a 3-4th round pick at best.

We’re just a few months away from the NFL, and if we can live through that long dark baseball season, all is good.

As Iceland has a Lutheran state church, Maundy Thursday (Holy Thursday), known as Skírdagur in Icelandic, is a bank holiday and part of Easter celebrations.

According to the Bible, Maundy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper of Jesus Christ with the Apostles. he was crucified the following day.

Some Christians in Iceland may go to church on this day, but most people just stay at home, relax and enjoy their day off.

Confirmation ceremonies, when teenagers confirm their membership in the church, often take place on this day and are followed by a feast for friends and family.

The confirmation child dresses in his or her finest clothes and is given presents.

NASCAR cut off and confiscated sheet metal from the No. 48 Hendrick Motorsports car of Jimmie Johnson on Friday, citing unapproved modifications to the C-post area.

The infractions were discovered during inspection for Daytona 500 qualifying, which means there could be possible penalties for the No. 48 team after the Daytona 500.

“We’re pretty serious about the body configurations of the cars for all of the right reasons,” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series director John Darby said. “This one was a modification that had been made to the car that put it outside that box.”

The unapproved modifications to the C-post, which is a panel of sheet metal that connects the roof of the car and the rear quarterpanel, were found on both sides of the No. 48 car. as is customary practice, the parts were put on display in the NASCAR hauler after being confiscated.

For now, the team is being allowed to repair the car with the proper parts.

“There’s always a potential (for penalties), but we’ll just wait until the 500 is over with,” said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR’s vice president of competition.

A Hendrick Motorsports official called the incident “a hell of a way to start the 2012 season.”

“You work within the templates the best way you think, and obviously you’re trying to do a better job than the next guy,” said Ken Howes, Hendrick’s vice president of competition. “I did not see the grid on the car, so I can’t tell exactly where it missed, but NASCAR said it’s not right – so it’s not right. We don’t have an argument with that.”

Howes acknowledged the No. 48 team was trying to gain an aerodynamic advantage by tweaking that area of the car and “obviously went too far.” Howes hadn’t asked Knaus for an explanation yet, he said.

“We allow the crew chiefs to make decisions on parts of the car they think will work,” Howes said. “It becomes an opinion, and we’re just not going to get in a fight over that sort of thing. We trust that they’ll make the right decision and obviously, in this case, they didn’t.”

The other Hendrick cars – the No. 24 of Jeff Gordon, the No. 88 of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the No. 5 of Kasey Kahne – all passed inspection and did not have the same issue as the No. 48.

Hendrick is in the process of flying down new C-post panels from its headquarters in North Carolina, Howes said. The parts are expected to arrive in Daytona this evening.

The car that had an issue in inspection is the same one that will be repaired and used for Daytona 500 qualifying practice on Saturday and the qualifying session itself on Sunday, he said.

This wouldn’t be the first time Knaus was caught with an unapproved part at Daytona.

In 2006, Knaus was ejected from Daytona Speedweeks and was suspended for the Daytona 500 – and three other races – after Johnson’s car failed inspection in the rear window area.

So why wasn’t Knaus ejected this time?

“That was a little different, because that was post-(qualifying),” Pemberton said. “That wasn’t pre-qualifying.”

Last season, Knaus ran into more trouble when he was overheard instructing Johnson to intentionally damage the rear end of the race car if the driver won at Talladega.

Ultimately, Friday’s incident may be similar to one that occurred at Sonoma in 2007. at that time, Hendrick crew chiefs Knaus and Steve Letarte were suspended for six weeks and fined $100,000 apiece after trying to gain an advantage in an area not directly covered by NASCAR’s templates.

NASCAR’s Darby said teams used to be able to get away with working “between the templates,” but can no longer do so.

But Howes said there are “areas on the templates (that) don’t cover every square inch,” and teams work to push the limits in those areas.

About 120 people attended last night’s fundraiser at King’s Diner for Chris Dresdow, according one of the organizers Vic Downing. Dresdow has been diagnosed with advanced stage Lyme Disease. because there is no officially recognized treatment, the disease is not acknowledged by medical insurers and therefore not reimbursable. Downing says treatment can cost between $2,500 and $5,000 per month.

–          (Dresdow 1                 :28                   "this is a very successful evening. We are really grateful to the community for coming out and not only purchasing things but scores of people have donated art here. The community has been involved in this for two solid months to make this happen. there will be more coming. sometime in the spring we’ll do a prime rib dinner and we may do something between now and then. We haven’t figured out what that is yet.")

Dresdow is the wife of Father Innocent Dresdow of the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral. he says that while money helps pay the medical bills, the community’s support is just as valuable.

–          (Dresdow 2                 :48                   "a lot of the times with these fundraising events it’s easy to focus on the money, but that’s the least of it. The moral support, the friendship and just seeing the community come together that’s been, to my experience and hers, it’s the most encouraging thing to see. also in the professional community to see this understanding and real genuine support it helps to bring someone to health even when they aren’t feeling healthy. It’s a really good aspect of healing that a lot of times we forget in our modern society because we say, ‘Well, I can take a pill for that.’ It’s usually not that simple.")

Downing estimates they raised $600 to $1000 toward Dresdow’s treatment. he says plans for future fundraisers are coming together.

Lindsay Lohan’s entire Playboy pictorial has leaked online, a week before it was set to hit newsstands and get a TV reveal on “The Ellen DeGeneres show.”

The ten photo spread, clearly inspired by the 1949 shoot of Marilyn Monroe that appeared in the men’s magazine’s inaugural issue, hit the Web this afternoon. Some of the pictures are stamped with the watermark for WorldMags.net, which had scanned the issue and made it available for download. this file has since been taken offline. The issue’s cover leaked online Thursday.

The actress, who has suffered from a number of legal troubles in recent years, previously posed nude for another Monroe-inspired spread in New York Magazine

Request for comment from Playboy has not been returned. Sources told TMZ that magazine executives fear the leak could damage sales. Lohan was reportedly paid close to $1 million for the shoot.

The issue hits newsstands December 15.

In an interview with ABC News, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said he believes that life doesn’t begin until implantation. Science, though, has proven that life begins earlier, at fertilization.1

Gingrich said: “I think the question of being implanted is a very big question. my friends who have ideological positions that sound good don’t then follow through the logic of: ‘So how many additional potential lives are they talking about? What are they going to do as a practical matter to make this real?’”

He added: “I think that if you take a position when a woman has fertilized egg and that’s been successfully implanted that now you’re dealing with life.” He concluded that “otherwise you’re going to open up an extraordinary range of very difficult questions.”

Gingrich falsely described the scientific position that life begins at fertilization as “ideological.” He then questioned the logic of the scientific position, using an illogical argument to defend his own unscientific position.

First, Gingrich incorrectly labeled human life at fertilization as merely “potential” life. But zygotes, embryos, and fetuses, just like children, adolescents, and adults, are human lives at different stages of development. and zygotes, embryos, and fetuses are human lives even if not legally recognized as human lives. So we’re not talking about potential lives, we’re talking about existing lives.

Second, he based his belief, and his position, on a strategic analysis of the consequences. But the consequences don’t change the fact of when human life begins.

Gingrich spoke of avoiding “difficult questions.” Coming from someone running for the highest office in the land, this is telling.

A true leader tackles difficult questions.

Search engine giant Google has released a new Web 2.0-style service called Google Buzz. The service combines features like a comment stream for your followers, the ability to follow others, and a profile page to give you more exposure. so how does that help your Internet marketing or affiliate marketing efforts?

Let’s start with the obvious – it gives you another avenue of exposure, helping you brand yourself wider online and hopefully get your message in front of additional new prospects. Any time you can find a major site that lets you add your name, photo and bio, including your marketing information, is bound to help add to our overall online presence as a marketer, right?

Less obvious to newbie marketers is that it helps magnify the effects of tools you’re already using. Because Google Buzz lets you add your Twitter stream and your Blog’s RSS feed, it’s almost instantly additional exposure for your blog marketing and Twitter marketing activities.

With it’s Twitter-like system of following and followers, our stream only appears to those who choose to follow you on Google Buzz and those who visit your profile page. As such, this now presents one more way to get your internet marketing and affiliate marketing message, and links, out in front of another targeted audience. No doubt Google hopes that Buzz will grow to the size of, or larger than Facebook. Think of how much additional exposure this could mean for your marketing if that does come to pass?

But like any such opportunity, you’ll have to work to build your following at Google Buzz, especially in the early days of the service. use the same advanced Twitter marketing strategies you used to build your Twitter following and keep it targeted for optimum results.

One aspect particular to the online Web 2.0 sites is that no one can predict which services will flounder and which will grow wildly – the actions of the potential audience are the sole determining factor – whether they choose to sign up for the site, use it regularly or abandon it. so as online marketers, we have to give it a shot with each of those showing the most potential if we want to be sure and get a great position in those that make it to the top.

For the sake of an hour’s investment of time, don’t risk your affiliate marketing or Internet marketing efforts being weakened by your competitors getting in and building a following first. Add Google Buzz into your online marketing toolbox and with time it may just grow to be a very powerful marketing weapon in your online arsenal

Michigan tight end Kevin Koger, 86, celebrates with offensive linemen David Molk and Mark Huyge after scoring a touchdown at Penn State last season. Koger, Molk and defensive tackle Mike Martin were named the Wolverines’ 2011 team captains on Sunday.

“when you walk in and go through the building you see that big wall of all the old captains — and those guys are just well-respected,” Molk said Monday. “They’ve done great things in and outside of football, and it’s a good group to be a part of. and it’s something I knew I wanted to be a part of.”

Molk, Martin and Koger will become Michigan’s first trio of captains since 2003, and while all three responded to the news in different ways — each said Monday that when they heard their names called, they were humbled and honored.

In Koger’s case, there was also a bit of shock.

“We were in the team meeting room, everybody voted, everybody got a ballot and voted — I actually thought we were going to come back (Monday) and find out, but they left the room, counted them, came back in and told us,” said Koger, who wouldn’t reveal who he cast his vote for — just that it wasn’t for himself. “It was sort of surprising. I didn’t expect it. … I was honored to get it and it took me by surprise.”Martin, who said he’s always tried to model himself after former captain and defensive line standout Brandon Graham, echoed the statements of his fellow captains and classmates.

He also explained how it’s important for the entire senior class to continue to push the rest of the roster as it begins a new era of Michigan football under first-year coach Brady Hoke, explaining that the team needs more than just three captains to lead day in and day out.

“Coach has always said, if he has to lead every single day, then this team won’t be good,” Martin said. “He needs guys like the seniors and upperclassmen to (lead) and coach guys up.

“Coach can be looking at everyone at the same time. Coach guys up in between drills. take them aside and tell them what they need to do to get better. that helps, it gives guys a different perspective on how to get better.”

In Molk, Martin and Koger, Hoke has three captains that have started a combined 72 career games.

Molk has seen three coaching staffs. Koger has managed to become one of the squad’s most respected players despite playing a position that was hardly used under former coach Rich Rodriguez. Martin has been asked to play a key role in a changing defensive scheme since his true freshman season and has been one of the few consistencies defensively for the Wolverines since 2008.

It’s a group that’s been through and seen a lot during their time – and one that Hoke says is a strong representation of the senior class as a whole.

“I think our players understand that our seniors will always be our leaders,” said Hoke, who said he will meet with his senior class each Sunday and Thursday and his captains periodically throughout the season. “and with Mike on defense, Kevin Koger and David Molk on offense — all three have demonstrated an ability to lead. all three bring a lot to our football team – (both when) you look at the leadership roles that they’ll play and the roles they’ll have from a production standpoint.”

The captain’s wall just got larger by three names. Molk, Martin and Koger will forever be linked to the 2011 Michigan football team.

And now, the only unanswered question is how that link will look.

“(It’s) a new team,” Molk said. “A new season, it’s going to be a lot of fun.”
