second time

MINNEAPOLIS – Eleanor Mondale, the vivacious daughter of former Vice President Walter Mondale who carved out her own reputation as an entertainment reporter, radio show host and gossip magnet, has died at her home in Minnesota. she was 51.

Mondale family spokeswoman Lynda Pedersen said she died Saturday. she had been diagnosed with brain cancer years earlier.

Mondale had been off the air at WCCO-AM in Minneapolis since March 19, 2009, when she announced that her brain cancer had returned a second time. she had surgery to remove the tumor Aug. 12, 2009, at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and a posting on her CaringBridge website declared the surgery a success.

Mondale, the middle of three children born to Walter and Joan Mondale, stumped for her father in his failed campaign to unseat President Ronald Reagan in 1984. she also made calls in 2002 in her father’s last campaign, when the former vice president took the ballot slot of Sen. Paul Wellstone, who died in a plane crash just days before the election.

A striking blonde known on the party circuit when she was younger, Eleanor Mondale also attracted gossip. Her dalliance with the late rock musician Warren Zevon was detailed in “I’ll Sleep when I’m Dead: The Dirty Life and Times of Warren Zevon,” a posthumous biography published by Zevon’s ex-wife in 2007.

In 1998, CBS News reported that Mondale was one of four women Monica Lewinsky expressed resentment toward in taped conversations because of attention President Bill Clinton paid to them. (Mondale issued a statement saying her relationship with the president and his wife, Hillary, was “purely a friendship.”)

Mondale started as an aspiring actress, with bit parts in TV’s “Three’s Company” and “Dynasty.” she got her start in broadcasting as an entertainment reporter at WCCO-TV in Minneapolis in 1989, but left after only eight months when a Twin Cities magazine was about to publish an article called, “Walter and Joan’s Wild Child.” The Star Tribune reported that Mondale denied she was forced out.

In the article in Mpls.St. Paul magazine, Mondale was quoted as saying “I like to get wild. but it’s not murder, and I don’t do drugs.”

After stints at Minneapolis radio station WLOL-FM, on cable television at E! Entertainment and ESPN and network TV on CBS’ “This Morning,” she returned to Minnesota in 2006 to co-host a weekday morning show on WCCO-AM with Susie Jones.

In 2005, Mondale was diagnosed with brain cancer after she suffered two seizures during a camping trip. The tumor nearly disappeared after Mondale had chemotherapy and radiation, but her cancer returned in 2008. she underwent surgery that time and was able to return to WCCO but eventually had to take disability leave to treat the recurrence.

Mondale was married three times: to Chicago Bears offensive lineman Keith Van Horne, to fellow DJ Greg Thunder and to Twin Cities rock musician Chan Poling of The Suburbs. Mondale and Poling married in 2005, shortly after her cancer was diagnosed, and lived on a farm near Prior Lake in the southern Twin Cities.

Tomlin (7-3-1-3-3, 91) won the Battle of the Joshes. Beckett (5-5-3-4-4, 106) struggled the second time through the Cleveland order; he threw a total of 82 pitches in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, and allowed eight base runners.

The Sox bullpen, however, was superb. Matt Albers struck out the side in the sixth (with a one-out walk). Bobby Jenks allowed struck out the side in the seventh (but had a two-out walk). Daniel Bard pitched a perfect eighth, with two strikeouts.

Boston took an early lead after two were out in the second. David Ortiz walked, J.D. Drew doubled to right, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia singled to right. Drew was gunned down at the plate to end the inning.

The Red Sox did not get another runner past first base until they were down to their last out in the ninth. Pedroia singled with one down (he had the Sox’s other two hits) and Adrian Gonzalez flied to left. Yook walked. With Ortiz at the plate, Pedroia took third, but Flo lined out to left to end the game, dropping the Sox to 0-4.

Jacoby Ellsbury and Carl Crawford were a combined 0-for-8 at the top of the order, and did not reach base.

Josh Beckett / Josh Tomlin

Tomlin is a 26-year-old right-hander who debuted last year, starting 12 games and finishing with a 4.56 ERA. he faced the Red Sox on August 5, pitching seven innings and giving up a grand slam to Adrian Beltre.

Beckett has made 143 starts for the Red Sox and Jason Varitek — the only non-pitcher to not play in the Texas series — has caught 111 of them. Beckett’s Boston ERA with Tek behind the plate is 3.95; in the 32 non-Tek games, it’s 5.53.

Here are the individual seasons:

This will be the second time I am posting this blog, because for some reason, Blogger decided to mess up and I lost the whole thing. can you believe that?

What a way to start Monday!

For the longest time I have said, “I don’t like female vocals.”

I think it was the influx of female pop singers in the nineties that really left a bad taste in my mouth. Bands like Aqua and S Club and Jessica Simpson. but I’ve grown up, and my tastes have matured. well, not really, but I’ve come to the conclusion that I do actually like female vocals. and that is why I am dedicating this blog to the top ten female vocals on my radar right now.

First up, we have Ani Difranco. I thought everyone loved Ani until I stumbled across a forum a couple years ago ripping her apart. Apparently, not everyone has taste. Fortunately, I do.

I remember in the late nineties when Cat Power came around. She used to hide behind her hair when she played. I loved her from the moment I first heard her. She has a very haunting voice. it sends prickles down my skin.

Rilo Kiley’s lead singer is Jenny Lewis and her voice can do things most peoples can’t. I have a wee bit of a crush on her. She’s cute as a button. and I adore the band.

I’ve loved Sarah Harmer for years. YEARS I tell you! She’s a Canadian singer/songwriter who is perfect for a rainy day. this next song sets me aglow.

The Pipettes are a throwback band. They seem to be trying to create a girl group of the fifties resurgence. which is fine by me.

Like the Pipettes, The Noisettes seem to have a old flavour to them. The lead singer,Shingai Shoniwa, has an amazing voice. Their music is fun and catchy.

Sarah Blakso has been around for a couple years. her first album came out in 2004, but I stumbled upon her a few years after. She has a great soulful voice. She’s a wonderful artist. Perfect for bathtub soaking.

I know this song is everywhere. I know people are raving about Florence and the Machines. but I wanted to put them on this list because I don’t think they are a one hit wonder. I think they will be around for awhile. The song rocks. what can I say?

The lead singer of the Concretes broke off and did her own solo project called Taken By Trees. Victoria Bergsman has a quality about her that I adore. I just can’t put my finger on what it is, because I think I should hate her voice, but I enjoy it muchly.

One of my biggest girl crushes is on Zooey Deschanel. She’s the cutest thing in the world. She has this pretty cool band called She & him with M.Ward (who I also love). Their music is fun and cute and sweet and lovely.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – after months on the shelf because of legal and financial issues, Taylor Hackford’s “Love Ranch,” starring his wife Helen Mirren and Joe Pesci, finally will receive a limited U.S. release in June.

Film

The drama will be distributed by Canadian company E1 Entertainment, which has an agreement in principle to partner on domestic marketing costs with Aramid Entertainment Fund. E1 also acquired rights for the U.K., Scandinavia, France, Australia and elsewhere, and it will sell other foreign rights next month during the Cannes Film Festival.

The June release is expected to be in a handful of theaters in seven to 10 North American cities, including New York and Los Angeles. If the movie gets positive reviews and does good business, the release would be expanded.

The film was inspired by the real-life story of Joe and Sally Conforte, who in 1971 opened Mustang Ranch, the first legalized house of prostitution in Nevada. The picture is based on an article that appeared in New York Magazine written by mark Jacobson, who also wrote the screenplay.

This will be the second time “Love Ranch” has been marketed globally. It was presold by Capitol Films, which financed the production for more than $20 million, according to estimates. Capitol was acquired by David Bergstein and Ron Tutor, who beginning in spring 2008 borrowed about $8.8 million from Aramid using “Love Ranch” as collateral.

Aramid said in a lawsuit filed against Bergstein and Tutor last month in Los Angeles that it also put in an additional $1.94 million to complete the movie in postproduction and for other costs. Bergstein and Tutor failed to make the payments on the loans, and Aramid foreclosed on “Love Ranch” and another movie, acquiring the films in December 2008.

One result of the foreclosure sale was that international distributors who acquired rights to “Love Ranch” from Capitol, in some cases paying cash advances, lost rights to the movie, which is why E1 will be able to resell it worldwide.

A spokesman for Aramid declined comment, no one at E1 could be reached for comment, and Hackford did not return a call seeking comment.
