tiger woods

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) – After breaking 70 for the first time in seven weeks, Tiger Woods headed to the back of the practice range at the TPC Sawgrass to fine-tune his swing. that was much better than going to the clubhouse to clean out his locker.

The Players Championship featured Matt Kuchar, Zach Johnson and Kevin Na atop the leaderboard Friday.

What it lacked was some of the golf's biggest names.

Rory McIlroy stumbled to a 76 and became the first player at No. 1 in the world ranking to miss the cut at Sawgrass since Greg Norman in 1996. Steve Stricker had made a PGA Tour-leading 49 cuts in a row until he shot 74 and ended a streak that began in August 2009. And with 11 holes left in his round, Woods was two shots over the cut line and in jeopardy of missing back-to-back cuts for the first time in his career.

The thought never crossed his mind.

Instead, he blistered a 5-wood into the breeze on the eighth hole – the toughest par 3 on the course – and watched it catch a slope on the edge of the green and roll 8 feet away from the cup. that was the first of four straight birdies for Woods, who wound up with a 68.

He said he was only thinking about a 66 to get momentum going into the weekend, and he missed by two.

“I was trying to shoot my number today,” Woods said. “Sixty-six was my number today. I figured that would have been a good way to go into the weekend, being probably four or five back. but I'm still with a good chance.”

Everyone has a chance going into the weekend, including Woods and Phil Mickelson, the Hall of Fame's newest member. They were six shots behind. but they are chasing the gang from Sea Island – home of Kuchar and Johnson, along with PGA Tour rookie Harris English, who was one shot out of the lead.

Johnson made five birdies on the back nine until a bogey on the 18th hole, though he matched the best score of the second round with a 66. Kuchar, who made a strong run at the Masters last month, played bogey-free over his last 13 holes for a 68. Na started the back nine with three straight birdies for a 69.

“It's fun to be back in position with a chance to win again,” Kuchar said.

They were at 8-under 136, meaning only eight shots separate first from worst going into the final 36 holes on a most unpredictable Stadium Course. the top 14 players on the leaderboard were separated by only three strokes.

English birdied the 17th and 18th for a 67, while the group at 6-under 138 included past champion Adam Scott (70).

McIlroy, who only last week lost in a three-way playoff at Quail Hollow, opened with a birdie and didn't make another one the rest of the day. He missed the cut for the first time in more than a year, though it wasn't unusual at the TPC Sawgrass. In three appearances at the Players Championship, McIlroy has never broken par or made the cut.

“Hopefully, I'm coming back here for another 20 years,” McIlroy said. “If I don't figure it out on my 20th, there's something wrong.”

Woods followed his birdie at No. 8 with an iron over the trees and into a bunker, only about 10 feet from being perfect. He still made birdie, along with a 5-footer on the 10th and a two-putt birdie from the fringe on No. 11.

“I hit a good shot there at 8 and made the putt, and from there I really hit some good shots,” Woods said. “I probably could have gotten one or two more out of it. but I really played well today. I was just very consistent, and nothing spectacular, just real solid golf.”

Martin Laird was solid for 33 holes and was the only player to reach double digits under par for the week. He was at 10 under with three holes to play when he lost four shots on the last three holes. his hopes for eagle turned into bogey with a 4-iron into the water on the 16th, and he dunked one on No. 17 for double bogey.

“I'm glad it happened on a Friday, and not on Sunday,” Laird said after a 73 put him in a large group two shots behind.

Ben Curtis and FedEx Cup champion Bill Haas were in the group at 5-under 139, while the group at 3-under 141 included Quail Hollow playoff winner Rickie Fowler and Luke Donald, who at least has a chance to go back to No. 1 in the world now that McIlroy has missed the cut. Lee Westwood also was at 141.

Johnson started with two birdies and felt in control for most of the sunny morning.

“I never really gave the golf course much,” he said. “In other words, I kept it where you need to keep it. my misses were proper. I was aggressive when I could be aggressive. And I caught a couple nice saves in there, too. but when you shoot that kind of score around this golf course – any day in the year, or any week – you're putting well. Clearly, that's what I've been doing the best.”

Laird went to 10 under with his birdie on the 15th. Then, he hit a beautiful tee shot on the 16th and was in perfect range to think about an eagle.

“It was one of those ones that I had an absolutely perfect number for a 4-iron,” Laird said. “It's one of those ones that you almost wish that you don't, and you play a little safer. I hit three or four great iron shots in a row right at the flag and kind of got a little greedy there and tried to fade one in the wind. So that was the first mental mistake I've made all week. If you do that on your 16th hole in the second round, you're doing pretty well.”

He went into the water on the 17th, and his third shot was some 50 feet away. He ran the bogey putt to the back edge of the green, and made a 12-footer for double bogey. He then failed to get up-and-down from right of the 18th green.

Even so, he's still in the hunt going into the weekend. And that's all anyone wants on this course, anyway.

“I've just got to take out of it that I played the last three in 4-over par, and I'm still third,” Laird said. “So I'm obviously playing some pretty good golf leading up to that. you don't lose that in the space of three holes. I'll be fine tomorrow.”

When Tiger Woods swings his driver, or Bubba Watson, you can see the power and you almost hurt yourself just watching. then there’s Ernie Els, every recreational golfer’s favorite player. with what seems like no effort at all, he hits the ball just as far as anyone. How does he hit the ball so hard with such an easy swing? To begin with, appearances are deceptive.

Ernie hits it harder than you think he does, but let’s back up first to his development as a young golfer. The story goes that when he was a boy, he would hit plastic balls in his back yard. with an easy swing, they would go about 70 feet. If he hit one as hard as he could, it would go about 70 feet. This taught him that swinging out of his shoes wasn’t the key to good golf.

What he does is obey the fundamentals of the golf swing, the first of which is the setup. The grip, stance, aim, and posture that you get yourself into before you take the club away define the movement that can follow. a good setup tends to restrict your movements to the right ones. In a poor setup, anything goes, and most of it is wrong.

The second fundamental of his swing, the one that makes it stand out so, is his rhythm and tempo. He never rushes matters, letting them unfold in the right sequence and in the right time. He really does swing hard. If you have a chance to see him live, you will get a big surprise. but his rhythm and tempo allow his swing to flow gracefully and effortlessly from start to finish. They allow all his power to be concentrated at the moment of impact in a square, in-line hit.

Imagine you’ve hung up a carpet and you’re beating it with a tennis racket to get the dust out of it. You know that to get the maximum effect from your blow, the racket needs to hit the carpet traveling straight into the carpet, not at an angle to it, and the entire racket head needs to hit the carpet flush, not hitting the carpet first with an edge of the racket.

Now think of the carpet as a golf ball, and the racket as your club’s head, and there you have it — a square, in-line hit. That’s how to hit the ball hard, and that’s what Ernie does. Always keep in mind that swinging hard and hitting hard are two different things.

There is one more thing about him that try as we might, most of us won’t be able to copy–talent. Ernie, along with all professional golfers, has a talent for hitting the ball a long way. You’re either a long hitter or you aren’t. Paying attention to the fundamentals allowed him to develop his talent fully. You can do the same thing, and hit the ball as far as your talent allows, which will be plenty.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Arnold Palmer was hospitalized Sunday afternoon because of high blood pressure from new medication, missing the trophy presentation at his tournament when Tiger Woods won for the first time in 30 months on the PGA Tour.

Palmer was being kept overnight as a precaution.

"nobody is overly concerned about the prognosis," said Alaistair Johnston, vice chairman at IMG and Palmer's longtime business manager.

Johnston said Palmer had been advised to monitor his blood pressure throughout the day because of some issues with new medicine he was taking.

he said one last test about 15 minutes before the tournament showed an increase in blood pressure.

"it wasn't anything to do with any ailments or any discomfort he felt," Johnston said. "The blood pressure was at a level where the doctor involved suggested that he go immediately to get more intensive evaluation at the hospital."

His absence was noticeable. one of the biggest thrills at the Arnold Palmer Invitational is to have The King standing behind the 18th green, waiting to congratulate the winner. Woods won for the seventh time, this time without being able to share a handshake and a hug with Palmer.

"Get well soon, Arnie," Woods wrote at the end of a tweet.

Graeme McDowell, who played in the last group with Woods and finished five shots behind, noticed immediately that Palmer in his pink shirt wasn't at the 18th at Bay Hill.

"I was surprised to see him not around, and when we just heard the news on the side that he had been taken to the hospital, of course we were very upset and certainly praying that everything is going to be OK," McDowell said. "That really puts a little bit of a damper on the spirits on 18th green when Tiger is going to pick up his trophy."

Sam Saunders, Palmer's grandson, tweeted, "for all concerned my granddad is doing fine and will be good to go tomorrow. thank you for all of your nice comments and concern."

It has been a really tough 4 months for Tiger Woods. It all started in late November when he crashed his car into a tree outside his mansion. After that incident, various reports suggesting Tiger’s extramarital affairs began circulating. one after another many women declared that they have had affairs with the ace golfer. Tiger declared that he was guilty of infidelity on his website and his wife Elin Nordegren departed from his mansion. to add insult to injury, many top companies ended their partnership with Woods.

After this entire dilemma, Tiger Woods declared that he would return to golf at the Augusta Masters. there was huge drama surrounding this incident, mainly because Tiger has said that he wouldn’t return to golf this year at his earlier press conference.

Woods finished 4th at the masters and this was considered as a success by many people. He was fighting for the title till the last day, when many suggested that he wouldn’t even make the cut.

Woods said that he would try to remain calm and acknowledge the fans now and then, but he began losing his temper as the bad shots began flowing in. He shouted at himself several times and threw the clubs away in anger.

All the reporters felt that this is a mental success for Tiger Woods, but he didn’t think so. He came to Augusta to win the title and he was not content with the result. It was obvious at his post match conference, where he declared that he wanted to win the title.

veronica daniels siwik – Celebrity Gossip – Tiger Woods Was Accused by his Porn-Star Paramour

It’s a conspicuous news: Tiger Woods was accused once again on May 3rd. What’s more, he was accused by his porn-star paramour.

Los Angeles – Tiger Woods’ porn-star paramour Joslyn James was stripped of her reservation at a swanky North Carolina hotel this weekend and she wants to know if Tiger put the bite on her plans.

The porn performer arrived in Charlotte Thursday night expecting to wallow in luxury at the Ritz Carlton before a matinee the next day at the Uptown Cabaret men’s club. her performance was set to coincide with Woods’ tee-off at the nearby Quail Hollow Championship.

Upon arrival, James said, her entourage discovered the Ritz had abruptly canceled her longstanding reservation, citing concerns about media attention.

She later heard rumors that Woods was already bunking at the Ritz – a surprise, since James claims he favored the super-swanky Ballantyne Hotel for their trysts.

Ritz officials and a Woods spokesman did not immediately return calls for comment.

“I was really shocked [by the cancellation]. It’s not fair. they knew who I was when we made the reservation. why all of a sudden did they get worried? If it’s true Tiger was there, he’s high-profile too, and he’s just as guilty for doing something wrong, if not more guilty,” James, whose real name is Veronica Siwik-Daniels, told the News.

“I’m not trying to put the blame I deserve on someone else. but I wasn’t by myself. I wasn’t breaking vows, he was. I wasn’t lying to my fans, he was,” she said.

James, 32, said she ended up bunking at a Westin hotel, and didn’t bother watching Woods fail to make the cut at Quail Hollow.

Her lawyer Gloria Allred wants the Ritz to conduct a “thorough investigation” and make amends.

“We are appalled to think that you might have chosen to accommodate a rich, famous golfer who has admitted lying to his wife, his fans his business associates and others over a woman whose heart he has broken, and whose only fault is that she fell madly in love with Tiger Woods,” Allred wrote in a letter to the hotel’s manager.

“No guest or potential guest deserves to be treated in this thoughtless manner,” Allred said, stopping short of threatening legal action. “We look forward to an appropriate remedy.”

James has demanded an apology from Woods in multiple interviews and released a slew of sexually explicit text messages in mid-March that she claims Woods sent to her during a years-long affair.

She claims she never took money for sexual encounters and even passed on porn roles at the golfer’s request.

It’s really a bad report for Tiger Woods. Again and again, it seems that there are continuous obstacles for Woods’ career development. What’s the problem then? maybe it’s time for Tiger Woods to make a deep reflection now.

PGA Tour – Will Tiger end it this weekend?

Will Tiger WoodsTiger Woods end his reign as world no. 1 at the Bridgestone Invitational 2010 this weekend?

It’s a surprising possibility, one, no one would have considered a year ago. After all, Tiger has won seven of the nine Bridgestone Invitationals played at the South course.

However, if he continues playing the way he’s done in the first 3 rounds, Woods’ no. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking could end on Sunday, after 269 straight weeks at the top since June 12, 2005.

Tiger is languishing in 78th position, two places from finishing last. this could be his worst finish ever in a four-round event since he turned pro. in his debut, he tied for 60th in the 1996 Greater Milwaukee Open.

Woods began the Bridgestone Invitational carding 74 and 72. A third round 75 yesterday saw him plunge to 78th in the 80-man field on 11-over par. He’s only shot above par in nine of 87 rounds, and three of those have come this week.

Phil MickelsonPhil Mickelson could become world No. 1 for the first time in his career if he finishes fourth or higher, and Tiger stays outside the top 44.

Tiger himself admitted, “Well, if Phil plays the way he’s supposed to this weekend, then he’ll be No. 1″.

Bubba Watson recorded his first U.S.PGA Tour win at the Travelers Championship by beating Scott Verplank with a par on the second hole of a playoff.

Watson, 31, rolled in a four-foot putt on the par-3 16thhole at the TPC River Highlands golf course in Cromwell,Connecticut, after Verplank missed his par attempt. Watsonreceives $1.08 million for the victory.

Watson, who’s tied for the PGA Tour lead in drivingdistance with an average of 304.5 yards off the tee, almostscored an eagle on the first extra hole, the par-4 18th. Hisapproach shot stopped two inches away from the flag and Verplankalso made birdie to extend the playoff, while Corey Pavin waseliminated.

Watson, Verplank and Pavin were tied at 14-under par afterfour rounds, one shot better than Chris Riley and two ahead ofPadraig Harrington, Retief Goosen, Ricky Barnes and Chad Campbell.

Tiger Woods is scheduled to play in the next stop on thetour, the AT&T National at Aronimink Golf Club in NewtownSquare, Pennsylvania. The world’s top-ranked player’s foundationis hosting the July 1-4 event.
